This is actually something my sister made for her GCC Brady. But she had described it for me over the phone and its very simple.

It makes a 'ball' out of drinking straws that is great for the birds to chew on and is good for hiding sunflower seeds for a foraging play.

you need one plastic zip tie and a good handful of plastic drinking straws and one quick-link. the best type of straws i get is the ones sold at wlamart, $1 for a thousand or so.... the plastic in these dosen't chip or split, it more or less stretches, so my birds can't eat it accidentally... anyway-

Take a handful of the straws and wrap the zip tie around them to the center, then zip it a bit snug, till the straws start to collapse in the center, put the quick link on the zip tie and continue snugging the ziptie as tight as you can, the straws will radiate outward fairly symetrically.

Stuff the straw ends with treats, large seeds, nut chips or peanutbutter and attach to cage with quick link.

I'd keep an eye on the bird while playing with this, at least for the first few times. These straw toys are safe the way my birds use them, but other birds might be rougher or , yanno.

I always have spare links around the house from demolished toys, so this project has a cost of about 35 cents. Now THAT i can afford! :woot:
