A couple links to some photos I thought you might enjoy.
My personal favorite is in "Pictures" - "Not flying" - the two with the "let me in caption".

OMG they are absolutely amazing!!!!

Did you see in the flying ones #3 and #16 is a red vent cockatoo. They are so rare. I can't belive she has all these birds and lets them fly outside. WOW

:thanx: for sharing.Very cool....esp the video. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have all our fids feel the freedom of flight. Something we take away for our fear of losing them.

Thank you so much!!

Have yours ever flown outdoors free like that? If so, how do you know when and such to get the nerve to let them "go"?

Glad everyone enjoyed the photos.

Shirley - and others that may be wondering.

No I don't let my birds do what is termed as fly abouts outdoors, just let the go like that. When I started that was my goal but I've been doing a lot of soul searching on that one lately. Couple of reasons, I'm NOT that good of a trainer, and I'm reevaluating the risks vs the benefits.

They do fly point to point (to us, from a perch to us, or to a perch/station) outdoors. I've had to slow down on that too now that Nino is older and seems (in my mind) more independent. I'm working on a new bond/trust thing with them (Nino) mainly. I'll post about that in "Macaws" when I get a chance. It does seem to be working and I think it would work with all birds.

Sorry got kinda long....

Oh... here is a link that everyone may enjoy, some pretty cool photos and videos.

If so, how do you know when and such to get the nerve to let them "go"? How can I answer that ???? :) Hmmmm... I really can't. Best I could do is say it's like how do you know when you find the right spouse. It's just something you know and no one can really explain it. Hope that makes a little since.

Jim,

I am an inexperienced bird owner. I have a 1 1/2 yr old CAG and 2+ yr old budgie. Both own my heart. I love your posts. They do make sense to me. Don't worry about the long posts. (Look at mine! :-) ) This is how I learn. I had the same question Shirley asked you too. *_*
