Thanks everyone for the nice replies and a warm welcome.

Not sure how you all do things so if I need a knock in the head or a push in the right direction fell free to guide me.

I've been on TRT since 1/2000 and was a mod on Tooz Talk for a year some time ago... I thought maybe I knew you on TT, but that may have been someone else. Maybe someone just told me about you... are you in Ohio or someplace with free-flying macaws? If so, maybe I was just told about you by someone. :D

Hello Shirley

That be me... in Ohio and flighted Macaws. I posted on MT for a while, maybe you heard...

For the record and so I get off on the right foot here I want to clarify something. Freeflight, to most that fly their birds, means unrestrained outdoor flight. My birds have and do fly outdoors BUT only in a recall (point to point) situation or fly to a station/perch. They do most of their flying in the house and at buildings. I personally do not consider them "freeflight" birds... They are just fliers to me.

Now you really got me wondering ! ! ! I know flight doesn't go over to well with some. Hope what you heard wasn't too awful bad. ;)

All the best
Jim

Jim, I couldn't imagine someone saying anything bad about you ;) You have always offered great insight and such a neat way to bond with your birds to be able to do some free flight, or however you put it. :p

I find it facinating, and always enjoy your pics :highfive:

Do feel free to post whatever you would like, as we are a pretty open bunch who enjoy learning :agree:

Great to see ya around :woot:

I've never heard one single thing negative about free flight, and not about you, and I am not swayed by what I "hear". :D Skyler, our RB2, is "free-flighted" in the house and wears a harness outside. I have his pic with the harness photoshopped off in the picture perch forum. Beautiful wing-spread photo outdoors.

I think Free flight is awesome and actually there is no reason why a well trained bird shouldn't come back - any more than any other animal. Just that most people not brave enough to try - which is fair enough, I wouldn't be!
They use positive reinforcement to train them. obviously you have to be sure your bird will come to you before you try it outside, and if they see a hawk or something they may stay up a tree for a while, long as you know where they are and that they will come to you.
