I am pretty sure my lovie is a male, his mother was a normal and his dad was a creamino, and according to advice i got a while ago, since his color is normal peachface, Scooter is a he.
And i wonder about talking.... none of my birds talk- yet, though i try to encourage them, but Scooter can speak Green Cheek and Cockatiel. I guess being raised with Biskit Bird , he thinks he is a Tiel... but i'm not sure if i ever read anywhere if Lovebirds have a knack for imitating human word sounds....

I don't know...
My parrotlets don't talk. Many do, but mine don't. My 'Tiel Tucker talks all the time - clearly. More than I've heard any other 'tiel... and he lives with a bunch of non-talking Bourke's! He says what we say to him. He talks so much in the a.m. to himself that I joke that he practices his "language skills lessons".

i'm glad i'm not set on any of them talking 'people', but i could have a little extra fun.... too bad they can't be taught very quick. Or i'd try to get them to say something special to my hubby when he gets home from the hospital :) Last night he admitted that he particularly misses the birds-- this is something i would not have expected because years ago he really didn't like any of them. But he saw Brody yawning one day and thought it was so cute he actually giggled. My husband dosen't giggle much so it was extra funny, but he completely adores Scooter, though Scooter isn't real excited about him, and Cyrus is his bird & a nippy little brat at that :)

they can learn to talk but any bird with the ability to talk can lean but there are no gurantees they will heck I know an african grey that only says one word and the bird is 12 years ..I have heard love birds can be good talkers but then again some may never say a single word just have to appreciate them as they are.
