You can't see the creatures... but there are 8 Koi, Shubunkins, Sarassa, and Comets, plus a number of frogs and other creatures in our little 100-gallon pond that I dug last June '04. Here is what it looks like at night... tonight, along with some random Asiatic Lily pics at night....I just collect the perennial seeds each fall and throw them around, and then each summer, things look a little different!

The tall green plants coming out of the water are yellow irises. They've multiplied like crazy, and have already bloomed.

All the water lilies made it through the winter, but they haven't bloomed yet.

Various perennial wildflowers around the pond... and their seed pods.

Another angle... and you can see some fish...

Does anyone know what this flower is? I had two or three last year, and have many this year, and they are so pretty! They grow up a long stalk and last all summer and into fall. They surround the back side of the pond.

These have multiplied from a few bulbs to many, so I've transplanted them to several locations.

Another Asiatic Lily... I'm going to order more of these for next summer!

And here's how I made my pond last June '04, in case you want to make one... it took me 4 hours to dig it: (plus you can see how much it changed in a year... without any help from me!)

they are beautiful flowers! I am not sure what pink & white one is. I had some like that long time ago. It looks like maybe, snails have been chewing on the leaves. They must be tasty too!

I've never seen snails here... but we have a LOT of rabbits!! I mean, our whole neighborhood is a rabbit warren! And they live under our minibarn in the back yard, and they go under the hemlock tree which is not far from the pond... and they sit in the yard and LAUGH at Sonja b/c she's too stupid to see them, and when she does, she races after them and they run only fast enough to wear her out, then wait at the picket fence, then as Sonja gets there, they zip through! (Sonja's our Schnauzer who has yet to catch anything!)

Oh, and the rabbits and chipmunks are why the hawks are frequently circling above, plus they sometimes capture birds from our feeder. :(

Lots of chipmunks live around the pond and have their burrows there... but they eat the bird seed, not plants like the rabbits do.

The rabbits are most likely the ones that like the leaves of that plant.

The seeds of the wildflowers are what I wanted to send you... but the USPS and international laws and such have all these agricultural restrictions, and I never did get an answer for sure... would Dave know?

that pink and white is some sort of geranium i think.... i have seen it in seed catalogs- or something very similar to that. there is also a king of hollyhock/mallow that looks similar... i'll try and look it up to see if i can get which one it is.

i think its ok to send seeds over the puddle, its actual plants w/ soil that poses a real problem if i remember correctly.
