Sadenna sent me this article when we were discussing dissinfecting siringes and such for hand feeding and i was bowled over by it. its really a must read. Supposedly ClO2(Or stabilized chlorine dioxide) kills the polyoma virus in minuts! leaves no harsh smells and is safe for animals.
Anyways ill leave you guys to read the article. Its a bit scientific reminds me of vet tech in college(especially parasitology) and chemistry class lol. Makes me want to go back.

yeah i think im gonna buy some do do the big cleaning of my cages. it softens hardenned poop. kills all the bacteria. and i will use it for my siringes for hand feeding. I was worried what to use.
It also says(And this is a direct quote)
Stabilized chlorine dioxide mouthrinse is very good to use on neonate mouths after hand feeding to prevent leftover food from incubating gram negative bacteria and Candida.
Have you ever done that at all? I would deffinetly be interested in learning about how its done or if its worth doing(Just wipe the beak off or such). Especially since cockatiels are so prone to sour crop.

Nope, and I wouldn't without first consulting with Dr. C. I don't interfere with the babies much - their mothers don't clean their crops, and so neither do I - While it may not hurt, it likely won't help. A healthy baby empties his crop properly on his own, and doesn't get bacteria that will make him sick. jmho
