Is it bad to have a fire (wood burning) in the fireplace in the same room as Mister? So far I haven't because I am unsure...There is no way he could get to it, but is there a chemical or anything that is released that would be harmful?

I'd completely avoid those fake "fire starter" logs (which, by the way, I love), since they involve burning that paper/plastic type thing... :shrug2:

I dunno about wood, though.

I googled "fireplace and birds" and got this (http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-housing/bird-safety-tips/bird-fireplace-tips.aspx), though.

The problem with fireplaces is not the quote "fire" or the burning, it's the microscopic particles (a general term) that are released into the air. Our birds have a very efficient respiratory system but it's not good at filtering out bad air. fwiw - the air they breath also goes into their air sacks so unclean air is distributed through out their body. More info than you probably wanted.:)

If the room is well ventilated and the fireplace is efficient it can be done. For me it's like so many other husbandry practices. It's an individual choice most often based on knowledge and willingness to commitment.:)

I'm content skipping it all together rather than introduce unnecessary risk...but fires are so pretty :)

See my reply to burning candles here (http://www.thebirdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8926), but I will repeat:

NO OPEN FLAMES INDOORS....
PERIOD

I can't say it often enough :p
