Its cloudy this morning though folk on the mainland have sunshine still I see looking across the water!
it's supposed to be heavy showers by lunch time, for the afternoon.
It is the Fleet Review today - part of the Trafalger 200 celebrations. 200 ys since Nelson or something?? anyway, loads of Naval ships from all over the world are out in the solent today.

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=450000&Y=90000&width=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=0&scale=200000&multimap.x=318&multimap.y=29

Here is the solent - zoom out to see in relation to UK

At the weekend is the International Festival of the Sea I went a couple years ago. There were lots of navy ships - what they called.. friggots and destroyers and stuff, from UK, Europe and the USA. Trevor wants to go but I'm not into Naval stuff - reminds me of war which I don't condone.

On our 'little' Aviary project we are still debating wood versus aluminium panels. we've spoken to several people who say wood is fine providing you cover all the panels on the inside with the mesh.
I have found and aluminium aviary panel supplier for around £300 inc Postage.
we are planning to get maxi or BH pionus - we think Maxi's now as we've read they're hardier.

I've found a video with Rosemary Low on hand feeding babies too so going to get that. We're still searching locally for advice on the subject. It seems almost like people don't want to give away the 'tricks of the trade' or something:shrug:
we're just on one big mission at the moment to learn as much as we can:agree:

Good Morning! :wavey: It'sa little after 1:AM Tuesday morning. It only reached 65 Monday, The weather man keep predicting we will reach 75 today. :emot-danc I hope it makes it. I will just started working on another caroiusel horse, it will be a christmas gift so I can allow plenty of time. This one is a white horse with pastel green and pink being the most dominent accent colors.

Kristy, it sounds like your area is having quite a large celebration of naval ships. That sounds like a large celebration. I wonder if they will have a water fireworks show after dark?

It would be nice if more people were willing to offer sound advice about your aviary. Keep seeking all the info you need. Sooner or later you'll know which design and materials you want to use. Good Luck with it!

Wishing everyone a nice day! :wavey:

Hi Everyone:wavey:

Kristie , good job you were here today, I slept in til 9.30:eek:
I bet the solent looks great with all the ships. I used to live at Southampton, it's not on that map but a little village called Hedge End, between Eastleigh and Botley.
We still have the sun here, yesterday was gorgeous too!:sunshines

Jean you've got loads of time to finish the horse, wish I was so organised:wub:
Have a great day everyone:highfive:

Hi Sue
Yes, I know Hedge End. I didn't know you used to live down south, are you from down here then?
I been looking for the parrot show but the date is TBC. Do you think you will be going?
we plan to get much of our aviary supplies there and breeding stuff. maybe even the birds if we can find a pair which come with the right paper work.

Do you mean the Stafford show in October??? We went a couple of years ago and may go depending when it is. Maybe we could meet up if you go too.

I lived down south from a baby til 11 years old, We moved north for my Dad's job but I remember I really didn't want to leave, my grandma lived up here so I had visited a lot.
We lived in a small bungalow on Lower St Helens Rd, behind it is all housing estates now but back then there were only about 8 houses and miles of open fields.

Good Morning!

Jeff -- When is Blueberry picking season?

Kristie -- What kinds of birds are you planning for your aviary?

I can't believe people aren't willing to help with advice. Maybe I can ask questions over here for you...

We FINALLY got rain last night... a loud thunderstorm early this a.m. that I didn't even hear, but Steve said it woke him up!

Majj -- I'm enjoying following your project w/pics on your renovation thread! Keep the pics coming! :)

Jean - I love horses, as you probably know... you'll have to post a pic of your new carousel horse. Is it a large one like the one you posted in the corner of your room or foyer last time, old board?

Kristie, I don't like war either, but we must never forget and learn from the past... so we can hope to one day somehow have fewer conflicts. Seems most wars nowadays begin with religious conflict... isn't that ironic...same as in the olden days... (think like us or we'll try to conquer you) How sad.

Speaking of War... we did watch Hotel Rwanda on DVD last night... I recommend it... true story, comes with a little mini-doc with the real people and it shows the memorial museum and such in Rwanda today. The civil war/genocide occurred in 1994, Filmed and financed in Africa, released in 2004.

On that note, have a good day everyone...

Good Afternoon, all. :wavey:

I had a few errands to run this morning like grocery shopping (Greg wanted strawberries for strawberry shortcake) and the bank.

It's very hot and muggy here. Feels like I need scuba equipment just to walk around outside. I swear, we're gonna start growing gills.

Kristie, good luck w/your aviary. I hope that you get all your questions answered.

Jean, my oldest daughter collects carousel horses. I didn't know you painted them. I bet they're pretty.:agree:

Sue, didn't it feel good to sleep in?:cloud9:

Good night, Majj.:cloud9:

Jeff. I LOVE blueberries. I just bought some at the grocery store today. I remember as a kid we used to pick blueberries in the summer. I got paid $1 a bucket from the grower.:agree:

Hi Shirley, thanks for the movie recommendation.

Hi Bill. I hope your trip is going well. :D

I hope everyone has a great day. Time for me to get writing.:highfive:

Wonderful!!

I was wondering if the netting would catch little toenails but I don't know. Wood will be hard to keep "sterile". It can harbor bacteria and viruses.

Shirley, I will happy share pics once the carousel horse is finished.

Vicki I make carousel horses from childrens jumping horses. I have made them for about 30 years.

I will post pics for those of you that have never seen the pics I posted on the old board. This one is made from an antique lamp I stripped before I made it into a carousel base and pole. It is all metal and had to be sand blasted before I primered it, painted it, then painted all the detail on it. I mout all of them on a swivell base so they can be positioned easily in any direction. This one gives you an idea of the finished size and how it looks placed in the living room.

Here is a close up of another one. It is not completely finished at the neck where the pole on the parasol is sitting in the pole. After I finished it I have a jeweld ball mounted on top of the gold pole so the base of the parasol handle was painted gold then mounted in top of that ball. You can see I even use false eyelashes.

Thank you Vicki!

Jeff, please post a pic of the one your wifes sister made!!! I'd love to see it!!

Blueberries are so delicious. Do you get a large enough crop of blueberries to can or freeze each year? Birds usually love them and they are good for them too.
