This is Bart's story and how she touched our heart and filled our soul with love before she left us. http://9.forumer.com/html/emoticons/bof/heart.gif

When I was opening a new motel I had an on site apartment on the third floor overlooking the pool which was surrounded by palm trees.

One morning I had the balcony door open. Within an hour there was the prettiest little black faced bird with green, blue and black colors that had flew in through the open door and landed on a floral arrangement. I thought she had flown in by mistake. I pulled the plant out on the balcony. She hunched down as if ti say no, please, don't make me leave. The floral arrangement, bird and I went back inside. This was the biggest and most pleasing surprise. I thought she must belong to someone near by. She may be lost, she may be injured, she wouldn't move from the plant. She remained glued to it.

I called my hubby and she flew to him landing on his shoulder. Then she backed her little rear end up to his neck, opened her mouth and made the cutest little sound as if to say I'm a sweet little bird please, feed me and give me a good home.

I looked in the lost and found in the paper, I called the local pet stores and the local bird farm. No one lost her. I called an avian vet, made an appointment to bring her into see him that afternoon. She wasn't banded so there was no way to trace her by a band. I went to the pet store to buy a carrier and some food. Then back home to get her then we headed for the avian vets.

The vet said she was a nanday conure. She was not microchipped. He couldn't tell her age only that she was an adult. The vet said she was a nanday conure. He couldn't tell her age only that she was an adult. I went to the pet store to buy a carrier and some food. She seemed healthy.

We left the vet's headed for the pet store brought home a new cage, toys, food and snacks. She was so happy she chirped as if to be saying thank you for giving me a home. My husband named him/ her Bart before we had her DNA tested. Even though she was a girl we kept her name Bart because she was such a tough little survivor. She survived in the wild until she found us.

When Bart was with us several months she became lethargic one morning when we got up. we took her to the avian vet and found she had cancer in her esophagus. He kept her a couple days and she was acting a lot better. We took her home again, gave her soft mashed foods for another couple weeks. She seemed to be so happy and would bobble her little head up and down with joy. All of a sudden she started to act ill and begin to go limp in my hands. Our last and final moment with her was as precious and touching as could be. Al drove us to the vet's as I cuddled her and gave her mouth to beak respiration. This little sweetheart had such a will to live. She did survive long enough for us to get her to the vet. He gave her some pain medication so she would not be in pain as she left us. The day she slipped away was a terrible heartbreaking day for both Al and I. She left us with her sweet memory in our hearts.

Here she is posing in the Christmas tree as we were taking the ornaments off.

She is the reason we have such a deep devoted love for birds.

Bart never tried to fly again after she flew in to her new family. She just wanted to be part of our family and never leave.

What a sweet story...I think I'm gonna cry. :( I'm sorry to hear that.

Anyway, she sounded like a very sweet bird and a dear friend. I hope you feel better.

Thank you Lana! we were truly blessed to have her choose us. We fell in love with her instantly. I felt sorry for her owners, who ever they were, that lost her but, in turn, we were happy to have her, she was a little queen in our hearts and house.
