I am really frustrated/scared. Davis, my baby tiel doesn't want formula. I have seen him eat bird food. 10 days ago he was 74 grams. Today he is 68. 11 days ago I slightly aspirated him, so he has been on .2 ml of baytril. Today is supposed to be the last day of it. He is not sneezing anymore, so it seems to have done it's job.

I don't know what to do. When I went to feed him this morning, his crop was squishy, or has stuff in it. I don't know if it is left over from last night's feeding...which would be a problem, or if he had been eating the bird food.

I think the reason I am more franic about it is I don't have any money to take him back into the vet. I don't know what to do.

Meanwhile, his cage mate had gained 4 grams and looks great. So that's good...but it make him look all the more poor.

HELP!!!!

Sara, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Just a reminder to all BOAF members, that birds, even babies, are masters at masking symptoms of illness. Weight loss is one of the first signs of something seriously wrong. There is no substitution for hands-on examination by an experienced avian veterinarian, if you are concerned about your bird's state of health.

That being said, I do understand that difficulties (finances, distance, time, etc.) arise when consulting an avian veterinarian. In this case, with Davis' condition deteriorating so quickly, there was likely nothing else to be done.

You did the best you could for Davis, Sara. You fed him, took him to the doctor and gave him all his medicine. However, we do still lose them, no matter that we give it our best effort. Again, I am sorry.
