YVW Nolansmom, Question for you? Was Nolan plucking when you got him or did you get him as a baby and then he plucked once he got older? Just curious as at our clinic we are working with a few parrots with this behavior. Mostly Cags and Ekkies. Thanks

Nolan had been in two homes before he came to us, he was almost 5 years old when we got him in April. The last woman who had him said he plucked for a couple of weeks when she got him and then quit and let all his feathers grow back in. She also said he would occasionally pluck if he got really stressed out, but would stop and then let them grow in again. When we first met him he had plucked a tiny bit on his chest and she chalked it up to a man who came to look at him and tried to force him to step up, which stressed Nolan out. Then when we came to pick him up a week later he had a much more plucked chest and she said it was because she and her husband were fighting a lot (going through a divorce). I don't really know the validity of those two reasons, but he continued to pluck when we got home and had a pretty naked chest for a couple of months. Thanks to Robin and Jim (and everyone else!) and their fantastic advice and IBP, his chest is grown in and he rarely plucks his back or legs now :) If you want anymore info, let me know and I can pm it to you, or you can look at the feather picking thread, cuz that has his life history (feels like mine too!) in it ;) Hope that helps!
