we've had basil for over 2 years now but we never got around to changing the details of her ID chip. well i went on line to try and do so, but after numerous emails it turns out that we can't do it, her previous owner has to write a letter saying that he has sold her to us. well, of course he hasn't bothered, and we bought basil from a pet shop, which has since been sold to someone else, so we don't have contact with her previous owner! what a bummer, I explained this in my last email and the response I got was they'd 'look into' it and try to contact him
I'm not holding my breath! :(

Did you get a receipt, would that be proof enough??

blimey... we may have but no idea where. In anycase they insist they need a formal letter from the previous owner. I guess we will have to contact them because they won' t know who we are either!
bit like selling a car, if you go through a garage how would you know who the car ends up being sold to!

I hope this mess can be straightend out. Maybe you an ask the people that purchased the pet store. They may know where you can contact the old owners, or at least give you a name. Another place is go to your city and look up who used to hold that business license two years ago. Good Luck!

I made copies of Elvies microchip certificate. Then I filed Elvie's origional micrchip ownership then keep coppies, in both cars so where ever we are I have a copy with me.

We have a certificate for our cat... rather official-looking.

If you can ID the ID, then it seems the bird would be given to you... who else would ID it? Or does the ID have a name and address?

All the paperwork has the original owners address details so we could write to them assuming they still live there.
the only thing, the petshop near my work is now owned by the son of the previous owners of the pet shop she came from so might be worth a chat with him.. he also said his dad had bred parrots and I wonder if they themselves were the owners... hmmmm.

it sounds like a good place to start looking for the info you need!

Ick. Whatta mess!

On the one hand, I can understand why they make it not-so-easy to do, but on the other, when you have the bird legitimately, it's a royal pain in the sittin' down end, y'know?
