Does anyone use the Opera Browser?

I had a friend recommend it to me and I was testing it out. It is very fast and allows one to have multiple tabs. It can be free with ads or purchased for a fee.

You can also download skins so that it looks as you want it to.

Firefox has all the tabs and is free, no ads.

Opera was used in Europe as often as Firefox.

European Internet Cafes used Opera and Firefox... hardly ever was IE even an option.

I would think Opera would be free. Since when would anyone pay for a browser?

The tabs on Firefox are just awesome... ctrl+T and you have a new browser for mail and BoF, for instance. or a 3rd one for the graphics to link.

Yes, I have used Fire Fox and liked it. I was just wondering if anyone had used Opera. I am using it now and it is fast and has quite a few features that Fire Fox does not. Like Mail. It even tells me when email has arrived. I don't think I would pay for a browser either but it is fun to use new ones. They do have a student or teacher discounted price too but the free-ad one works well.

Bill -- gmail is awesome... it tells you when you have mail, too, and is the best Internet-based mail program I've ever seen. If you want to try it, I'll send you a free invite.

The features are too many to list, but your emails are all kept together like a message board dialogue... and the built-in search engine is terrific at finding emails...

We use Mozilla for Internet browsing (Firefox) and for e-mail (Thunderbird). The only thing I use Microsoft for is startup and Office products like Word and Excel.

I am very happy with Safari.

Firefox/Opera are easier, and AOL is ... well ... hardly what I'd call a browser. It's an ad-generating mess that lets you sometimes enter the URL and find what you're looking for.

Firefox is SECURE, blocks the popups, keeps out the junk ads and spies that spyware and ad-aware have to find when you run it, if you run it...

Barb, I am with you! IE is simple to me. Maybe because that is really all I know. I feel lost trying the other brousers and hubby knows nothing about operating computers, so It's up to me to figure everything out. LOL

We are, but you are right. Facts are facts, and Gates really screwed a lot of things up with Windows.... He left them "open"! And all the bugs flew in!

Apple is going to be using the Intel Chip in their computers slated to be on the market in 2006. This might make the switch much easier. The majority of the developers are saying good things about this new Apple computer. Apple is planning on calling them MacTel. No word has been said on whether they were going to allow Windows to be used as the operating system but most think the answer will be "no!"

I talked to my friend the Mac Specialist and he told me that when he purchases one of the MacTel's it will have to a second or third generation so to eliminate the bugs that are likely to come with the first models.

The prices are likely to drop as well.

Dell has jokingly (be seriously) approached Apple about allowing consumers the option of choosing as Mac OS for their new PC. This will probably never happen and would require a lot of work to make the OS to work on a Dell or other machine. The biggest problem that Windows faces is that not all of the components of a machine, being a DEll, gateway, or whatever are compatible with other parts in the machine. Thus, problem occur that include crashes, freezing, and other annoying things.

The link worked for me, but probably becuse I am regestered to the page where the link came from? Fortunately, Apple is not plagued with all of these problems of additional junk to bog down a system. It is unfortunate that so many people spend their days do nothing but causing harm to others. The average person will not be effected by these bugs unless they are really powerful. Well, I haven't had any worms or viruses... but I keep things real secure and don't download a bunch of "free" stuff like screen savers and such.

My brother runs Norton, *sometimes*, and assumes it runs when he isnt' running it... and his wife grabs everything free there is out there.. games, ~elves and bowling and such :rolleyes: and screen savers, and every joke you ever don't want to read, and then calls me to "fix his stupid computer"!

I hardly use background wallpaper! It's been a 5x7 photo of some toadstools shot by Troy for many months now.... His is some memory hog downloaded image taking up the entire screen, (the rest of my screen is black so I can find things)

I lost two computers with Norton's on both. Norton's does not take of some worms or viruses. My neighbor had a Dell and he ran his anti-virus software at least once a week and never downloaded a single thing. It does not take any downloads to get hit with a virus. I went over to help him out and he had tons of viruses and adware and spyware. Oh my! His computer worked so slow. I worked and worked to get it taken care of and we finally did get it done but I believe it took three hours just to get the viruses and then more time to get the adware/spyware off. It was persistent. Following this experience my neighbor bought my iBook and has not had one issue since. A virus can infect any part of your computer (HD, mother board, etc). You are very lucky to never had any negative experiences. The neighbor sold his Dell to another person but had to retrieve it because the person went on the internet and was hit immediately with a virus and the person who bought it blamed my neighbor. It is a shame that there are viruses being made by morons who have nothing better to do with their time but attempt to strike out at the system because they think they can be anonymous in their destructiveness.

My Norton is set to get Live Updates every hour or something like that... once a week and I'd be dead! :scareboo:

Win XP never crashes for me... '98 and '95 were another story... but I am not saying I like the way Gates has his programs written.

If I had my choice? We'd all have software exchanged free and be running Unix or Linux and there'd be an awesome Photoshop that runs on that OS... and so on...

norton is such a pain (firewall) as it blocks things you DO want to download!! we can't download our college work because of the frickin thing, we have been told by our college IT support to DISABLE norton security (firewall) in order to access our work.
How ridiculous is that!
we've got mcAfee for our new pc....

I'm taking my mac into college next week, so I can explain all the benefits :D
