All the birds I have ever had have done it year round, to one degree or another. I think it is related to how frequently the toys "step out of line"....;)

No, not necessarily...
The boys beat up their toys on a regular basis. I don't worry about it. I think it's probably good for them, actually.
But - I'm a little different about a lot of things I think are good for them compared to what is generally excepted as "the" birdie rules.
You knew that.:)

Marlon sometimes really gets into it. He gets his toys just swinging away. Sounds like he is tearing up his room.
Roxy hasnt yet beat up her toys. She's too busy chewing!!

Roxy is too much of a lady to do that....:funny:
Coco seems to go through stages.... sometimes she gets very animated with her toys. Other times, her toys are well behaved and do not need daily punishment. ;)

I haven't seen Tango beat up his toys... but Maverick does it constantly. It's a productive way of taking out their aggressive/excess energy, in my opinion...
I'd rather he beat up his toys then go crazy with me... :agree:

Sometimes Nolan wants to KILL his toys, and then 2 seconds later he puts his head down for his toy to give him scritches! What a nut!

chiko loves to beat his toys into submission. that or he preens them. depending on his moods.
Toto does it sometimes, one minute he'll be all loved up with his indestructibell, next he's flinging it round the cage.:funny:

All of mine except for Gabby abd Joe love to show their toys who the boss is. The lovies can destroy a toy in no time not to mention drowning their foot toys as they are always in their water bowls.

Drowning their toys?? Well, that just brings it to a whole different level! I'll be sure not to mention that to Coco... she already has sooo many ways of tormenting the poor little toys....!:woot::woot:
BTW, none of this would be necessary if toyz would just remember their place... what happens at my house is the diva will walk past one, and "it" will "touch" her. It then gets the **$(*&$# beat out of it. ;)
The boys love to beat up their toys too, then next minute they're being nice to them. Oh, in case you've ever wondered why you don't see play stands or toys hanging around in my pics of the house.
.
.
Are ya ready?

.
They think I'm the best toy going. I move, I have different colors each day, textures, fingers to beak wrestle with, ears to pull and fly off, I can chase them, they can chase me, you get the picture.
No need to call the men in white coats.
They been here. :funny: :funny: :funny:

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:I'll have to try and catch it on video, Scotty. You probably remember this video. They're helping make the bed. It's old. There's a couple places you see me playing with Teo through the pillow case and where I act like I'm going to get Teo. Don't say a word about me being silly. They like that too. If they like it and I can do, they got it.:)

Jim I have to say that was WONDERFUL, boy did I enjoy those two. As big as they are it amazes me that they fly so beautifully without hurting themselves, kisses, and potty trained, sleeping at the foot of the bed, you can see how much they love you, what a really great job you did with those guys, but I knew that.
uh do you do windows...just kidden
Scotty I put a Toto vid up for ya, Shirley also put up the same one as Toto @the gym. Big time toy chucking fest:rofl:

I always love watching Jims videos. I have been trying to find a square or round hoop like the boys have with the rope slide. Roxy would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE that game. :agree:

My hubbie wanted to know, Jim, how you keep anything on your shelfs, cupboards, etc. with the two of them flyin' around like that!:funny: It was truly great, and I loved the hoop on the clothes line game!
(I too, am wondering, as is Scotty, whether you do windows, dishes, carpet cleaning... maybe you could provide a list for us to review??);)
Thanks Elise and Tina. I know Tina's seen them. Maybe you hadn't seen them, Elise.:shrug2:
Tina, my dear. I'm so sorry about not getting back to you about the square or round hoops.:( We can't get them anymore and can't find them anywhere. Don't think I told you, did I?
Anyway, the good news. They dropped one and it broke, so I had to start thinking.:scratchch 1/2" PVC and four elbows and Ha La! A new square hoop. Actually, I think it's better. It's bigger for a macaw to grip. Those were 8" square if you're wondering.
Can't wait to see Roxy sliding on the rope.:emot-danc

So you'll know. They fly like that because they have always been flighted. They walk in the air, is what I call it. There is a difference, as I hope you can see, in the way they fly compared to what you may see of a bird that was clipped.
Not that a clipped bird can't fly pretty good when the wing feathers grow out. There's still, imo, differences if we look close.

(I only do windows, dishes, carpet cleaning... around here. Donuts have been known to change my mind.)
I love playing with them. We have a lot of fun and pass a lot of time playing.
I was thinking. Maybe a thread about playing with our birds would be interesting. I'm always trying to think of new things to do with them.
Would it be something of interest to the group?

Jim Just wanted to say that I have neglected to have Tiki out in quite a while. Well last night I was in the process of changing there water and Tiki came onto the open door so I put my hand by him to put him back and he stepped up,I put him on my shoulder and continued putting his water back,I reached back to get him and down my back he went [no intention of going into his cage.] After me trying without sucess, he decided to take a fly around the room,[now his wings are all grown in so he's completley flighted] so I held my breath and told him to "common Tiki good boy" he flew so beautifully, very slow and not at all frightened ,no head bumping on my ceilings,I was very impressed ,he tried to land on his cage but wasn't sure so he landed on the floor next to his cage,I put my finger down and told him what a good boy he was and step up, he stepped up and I kissed his head[he likes that] and put him in his cage[it was bed time for him]and i gave him a treat. It was a great experience for me and him, and now I feel that he can take care of him self in the air so Il'l be taking him out more with those BIG wings and I wont have them clipped any more:dance:

Oh, btw all. Glad there is interest in play time with our birds.:) I'm working on how to approach it in a way we can all discuss and learn. It's probably no secret now, that I chase the boys and do things similar to how we interact with our dogs, cats, or some people do with bears, lions, wolves, etc.
I'm thinking, so give me a few. We'll do it, just want to get off on the right foot.:)

Im all open to new ideas :agree:
Im always puting Roxy and Marlon down on the floor and have them follow me around its hilarious.
I do a bit of hide and seek with Roxy. I put her in one room and go hide in another and call out to her and let her find me. The look on her face when she finds me is so funny.
They both like to climb the steps too from the basement and its carpeted so its easy to pull themselves up :D

Our's are open and I get underneath, play with touch toes while they try to get away. Of course they don't go far and even come back to give me another chance. Guess it's 'cause they love the game.
We're going to do this. It doesn't need all my fusing about how to start. Sounds like we have it going on already. I'll start a thread in the behavior forum. I'm a little busy right now but I'll do it, promise.:)
Or you or someone else can. Makes no difference.

no I don't feel it is related to being hormonal, several of my birds beat up their toys often year around...our military macaw beats up her big blue bell on a regular basis to show it who is boss lol and my tiels will get on a toy butt kicking streak now and then ..my cherry head conure was not about to let one of her toys get the best of her by giving it a good shaking and just beating up on it the other day..
I kind of relate it like my dog maggie sometimes she plays gentle with a toy and then other days she gives that toy a good shaking and just plays rough with it, tosses it around, shakes it like mad and will do this for a good 10-15 minutes then will drop the toy and walk off as if nothing had happened..I guess it is just one way they get out a small amount of excess energy..
