Louie's Home!!!

Hi,
I just recently went and adopted a 4-5 year B&G on saturday.
He does'nt really like us much yet, he leans out to bite and he screams a whole lot.
We let him out of his cage and he sits on top like a good boy, he hates being in his cage for too long. Which I feel bad because no ones home all day to let him out. I know that he's used to being out and kind of doing his own thing around the house. We are building him his own room where he can be left out all day long and it will have lots of windows and toys hanging everywhere fromt he ceiling.
I'm hoping we can get started on the room asap, but until then he's locked in his cage all day.
Yesterday was his first full day at his new home, it went ok, he will let us feed him by hand, sometimes he tries to bite when we feed him, we just go slow.
He was nice and tame to his old owners, so I know that he can be super sweet to people. I'm guessing it's going to take awhile for him to trust us.

Can anyone think of anything I can do to gain his trust?

Sounds to me like you're doing good... You let him out because you noticed he hates being in too long... You're going slow, offering treats... You realise his potential and know this might take a while... Sounds like you've got the "love and patience" thing down!

I'd say keep doing that for a bit... He'll learn to trust you once he realises you guys are ok and won't try to eat him! ;)

Congratulations on your new addition!!

To gain trust..... Dont force Louie to do anything that he does not want to do. Go at his pace and take things slow.

Congratulations on Louie coming home.:highfive:

Can't say much more than what has been suggest. B&G's seem to be pretty easy going and adjust well to new things. Once he settles in, I bet he'll be chasing you around the house and doing all kinds of goofy stuff to get your attention.:D

Cough, cough -- Tina (tropiclegirl) might know something about, once they settle in.:funny:

:rofl:You can say that again!!!!

Roxy is very much like a little child that follows me around, wanting to be with me as my little buddy. Macaws are full of personality and life is never dull when sharing your life with one!!! They are so much fun.

I don't see him chasing me around anytime soon, I guess that might take some time.

I can't wait to get his room built though. He would be so happy to be out of his cage all day long.

Anyone have any ideas or pics of their room for their feathered friend? I need ideas badly

Suggestion: a room with all distructible toys, bells that make loud noises, all kinds of music and lots of ropes to climb !!!

I'm trying to make one now, without anounying my neighbors (kinda).
