Do any of your birds watch the TV and then get upset by what they see?
I'm a mad fan of wildlife progs especially birds, and Basil gets the right hump. Sometimes I watch a programme called 'The Zoo' about Auckland Zoo in New Zealand and they have all sorts of critters on there, and Basil puffs up to look big and scary, and hisses and pretends to 'attack' like she thinks they're real and in the room
then she starts squawking and we have to calm her down!
She does the same to books with photos's of birds on them!! I even have a T Shirt with Parrots on it and she even gets cross with that! she's so daft. Bob hangs upside down and watches but he only starts making noise when she does.

So true! Elvie gets upset, extremely excited or scared and also goes into an attack mode when he sees an elephant and a few other animal species. There is nothing more frightening then a bird home alone with a frightful creature.
Television is something we monitor closely with him especially, if we are gone for awhile and leave it on. We always put it on a home shoppig network, since they do not show things that may scare him and he loves to talk to the hosts. He knows they are there to visit with him and keep him company.

we always turn off the TV when we're out or even upstairs as Basil just squawks continously otherwise.
same if we don't pull the curtains by dusk.

Birds often have different fears. It's good that you are aware of Basils and do what it takes to avoid them.

I haven't had any reaction, but my vet puts on cartoons to entertain the birds. Nothing to intimidate and the bright colors catch their attention. She also has the volume off...

Good idea! Elvie likes to watch cartoons too except, when the creepy ones come on.

There is that 'pollyvision' DVD/ Video you can buy, it just got loads of footage of birds on it, but to be honest, basil would hate that, she'd be frightenend and think they were parrots coming after her, or encroaching on her territory - don't think it would be very comforting, which I think was the point of it.

What's a TV? ;) Is that the other half of my DVD and video player?

We leave the tele or radio on when we're out. Childrens prog's and cartoons. I have never seen Toto be scared by it, he's usually indifferent as he was to Pollyvision. Maybe he had the hump because there are no M2's on it:rotflmao:
The Coronation St theme usually sets him off, probably cos he knows I want to watch it:rofl:

If there are real birds on, Ollie always chirps and if it's a tiel , he goes bonkers answering it, just like he did when we babysat a friends 2 tiels. I love to hear him do that. He also chats to the wild birds:)

A hawk caught Shelby's attention once... got her crest up real good... that's about it.

We don't leave the TV on when we aren't home. Nature shows, which we watch a lot, don't seem to faze them. But then, that's just our birds... And Shelby being the drama queen... was the only one who paid attention to the birds on the shows.

From what I've read about this issue, Too's seem to be the more picky ones. Naturally!

Joey loves watching CNN. (Please see the evidence on the website below. :-) ) However, he always remain calm. I'm still experimenting what Oliver likes.

Dear Shirley and Jean,

Thank you so much for the compliments. Pets and flowers are naturally photogenic. Also, I guess the camera helps too. I use Canon PowerShot S400, as an amateur of everything. :-)))) I love to see more of your pics too.

Oh, I met somebody who works at a bird store where I buy bird food. She has a macaw and told me she uses Simple Green to clean the bird cage because it has no chemical, do you think it is safe?

Very best,

Lana

I would have to read the ingredients before I could be sure it's ingredients were 100 % bird safe.
