Are you doing blood sample DNA? If so, I have some tips for you -- I never clip the toenail.

I use a sterile needle, such as an insulin needle, and prick the ball of the foot - a toe-pad, and that usually does the trick with no resistance or vocalizations from the bird.

I am doing a toenail clip, they both have very noticeable veins? (i think that's what they're called (or quick?)) when I hold a flashlight up to their toes.

I don't know if I could find an insulin need to do a toe prick, but would doing the toe-nails be a bad thing?

A nailclip will definitely yield you tons of blood... and they'll likely feel the pain... that's why I won't do that - it hurts. Do you have any kind of sterile needle?
If you do the nail clip, just barely clip the vein...just barely. Trust me... you'll get plenty of blood.

I don't have any needles in the house, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to go get one. I will also have to buy a sterilizing pad (alcohol swab) to clean their toes.

Rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab should be fine...

I had to get syringes for a lizard I had way back when... they weren't very expensive... I'm sure if you ask for two, they won't charge you an arm and a leg for them. :)

Well I do know 100% Skittles is female... all Inos/Lutinos are apparently female (I did some reading) and I am about 99% sure Kirby is a boy...

I just want to know for my peace of mind ;)

I have received the kits and I will be doing their toenails on Tuesday. It's Canada so we have that day off... :D:D Wish me luck!
