So I know hard boiled eggs are a good sorce of protien for birds. What I want to know is, is the yellow part good for birds? Or should I just give them the whites?

Well egg whites are very high in protein while the yolk has a very high fat content.

I don't think it would harm your Fids if you give them a mixture of both :)

We put the entire hard boiled egg, shell included, in a grinder and then give it all to the birds. The shell provides calcium.

Yeah it was the whole, high in fat part that had me worried. That and cholesterol, not like I think they have to worry about that with all the exercise they get of flying around trying to land on peoples heads.

I agree with Elise, Popo is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

I give both to both of mine but Ollie (Tiel) eats a lot more white than yolk. I give the shells too.

Oooh, Popo is gorgeous... isn't that the topic??:D:rotflmao:

My birds eat the whole egg (I usually serve it well scrambled). They don't eat large quantities, so I don't worry about the fat/cholesterol. Especially with the good benefits of all parts of the egg. :)

Robin just made me think of it, i give mine eggs in the form of hard boiled, scrambled, omlettes and poached.

The birds around here are well spoiled, Dave spends a fortune on the wild birds outside too!

We have the best selection of breeds in the area.
Next doors chickens even come over to share:rofl:

offering both the yolk and the whites is fine..but with anything I think you can over do it, I mean smaller birds don't require as much fat and protien in their diet as other birds so some hard boiled egg once or twice a week won't hurt..I offer a bit of hard boiled egg to all my birds at least once a week..
