I was napping the other day, and all three birds were out... everyone playing independently... enjoying the day...
I wake up to find Petey inside Sammy's cage, helping himself to the food bowl! (PS - they both eat the exact same food, but Sammy's TASTES better, apparently!):funny: Sammy was sitting nearby on a perch, preening - no big deal!
Of course after I ran and got the camera and came back, they were then both on top of Sammy's cage... then both on top of Petey's cage... then both on top of Sammy's cage... they never stay still for the camera! That would have made a great shot~!
Getting to know you... getting to know all about you... (la, la la)... AND your food dish!!!
:nuts::rofl:

Well, Robin, surely you know that a dinner out to the neighbor's or a restaraunt is ALWAYS better than dinner in one's own abode, don't you???
Why should little Petey eat his food when he can have Sammy's and save HIS for later, yummy double helpings:rofl:

Both of which are true... I've notice when hubby puts the toast in the toaster it is tastier (say that 6 times fast) than when I do it... and apparently Petey's no dummy - double helpings! :D
With them both being males, I'm suprised anyone would share their inside cage space, but they get along quite keenly. They don't have to interact if they don't want to, but choose to. I think Petey is encouraging Sammy to play with toys (Petey being the 'tiel toy king), and Sammy is still showing Petey the fine art of landing dead center in a scrambled eggs dinner plate....
I'm with Elise. Good sign.
Now Robin...:)
...With them both being males, I'm suprised anyone would share their inside cage space, but they get along quite keenly...Why would this surprise you? It may be a surprise to see in the wild. I'd be surprised to see a bird sitting on me, eating out of my hand, wanting to be with me... in the wild.
Enough said, my friend.:D You know how to look at and analyse things in the relative environment. You've even pointed it out to me... (Seeing us as a mate) Remember.:)

I guess with all the recent talk with species getting along/not getting along... and putting males together... it got me to thinking... and questioning myself a little....
Petey and Sammy have always gotten along (minus a few verbal altercations, which is normal behavior). However, I also went through a process of introduction (once quarantine was over), and they have gradually gotten to know one another and played together. I didn't start out with bringing Petey in the room and placing his cage next to Sammy's and suggesting a tea party....
As my mom used to tell us kids about calling her at work, she would say, as long as there is no fire, flood or blood...it's not an emergency.;) Don't call!
Petey and Sammy have their own spaces, and it's up to them if they want to invite the other over or not. The invitation is on an as-given basis... meaning today's invitation may or may not extend to tomorrow!
Now if Sammy didn't want Petey in his cage, Sammy knows how to see to it that Petey stays out.... What I don't do is pick up Petey and shove him in Sammy's cage and (door opened or closed) or vice versa.... I do watch to make sure the fun play remains fun and play.... Yer right Jim, I just started questioning instead of continuing to follow my instincts and observations....
I was having a little fun with you. :)
Being a behavior changer, had I only known your plan (what you did or were doing) and not the outcome. I'd have predicted a high rate if success.:agree:
Everything you did was setting them up for success on their terms.
That's as good as it gets.

Same thing pretty much goes on here too. Everything of Marlons is way better to Roxy than her own :funny:
Excellent Robin! They need to be given these kind of chances to explore as you've allowed them to do. :D

I'm picturing Roxie exploring and searching as she would if she were with her flock in the wild. That is rewarding! :D

...Same thing pretty much goes on here too. Everything of Marlons is way better to Roxy than her own :funny:Well... of course. What someone has, that I may care to be friends with, usually looks good. If it's someone I don't care to know... it don't look so good.
If'n I don't like'em, I usually don't want what they have.
That would be -- YUCKY!!!
Totally un-cool and we know Roxy and Marlon are far from un-cool!:)
