View Full Version : Good Morning! TGI Friday!!
Hi Everyone,
I can't believe where this week has gone! So much been going on it's flown:funny:
Today is our wedding anniversary, 33 years  We are going out for a meal tonight at a nearby hotel.
Dave gave me flowers this morning which was a lovely surprise:heart: as he's not at all predictable (you know, flowers every birthday and anniversary). He doesn't give me them all the time so it's a really nice surprise when he does:wub: Here's a pic below, they even match my car:rofl:
What are everyone's plans for the weekend? we may go to a Shogun exhibition in Leeds about 40mins drive away.

Congrats, Sue!
This weekend ... there's a good question...
Um... my brother's in town, so I may have a command performance to go hang out with them. Failing that, I'm going to go make quilts at church.

Congratulations Sue!!! The flowers are beautiful!
Steve is so like Dave - loves to surprise and be unpredictable, and chooses my favorites like those... a mixture of beautiful flowers, not just "roses".
Can't wait to meet you both in person!!

Happy Friday, all. :wavey:What a week, I'll agree! It did go by fast, though, didn't it?
Happy Anniversary, Sue. May you have many, many more. :emot-danc Your flowers are beautiful, and they do match your car!
Our plans this weekend include meeting Shirley! YAY!
As for today, I have to make ANOTHER bank run, ARGH! and I have to take the car into the dealership to have the rear tail light looked at. It went out, and could possibly be defective.
Majj, get some sleep and we'll see you tomorrow.:highfive:

Morning All!
Sorry, but for what ever reason, (i blame working midnites/with no sleep yet this week so far)which is a lousy excuse, since i've went every third week(midnites) of my working career, well, the last 10 yrs, with very little,or more correctly no sleep during this shift.
Have one more midnite to go, then a long weekend off,,,
Went to some places yesterday , to look at/buy things we need for the bedroom re-do(carpet,trim, window treatments ,paint, closet doors etc.) and since my wife went to the casino boats the other day, and won over $1800 in just 20 minutes, from two slot machines,:highfive:  :emot-danc , we pretty much ordered what we needed ,and paid cash on the spot for it!:agree: :D ,a lot easier to do this with "free" money! LOL
now that that part is done, next is the work at hand, doing the actual work LOL.hopefully it will go smoothly,,
Hope everyone has a great day!
Congratulations Sue! I hope you have a great day!
The weather is nice here with the temps to reach in the low 70's. Supposed to rain tonight and some tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Hi everyone! :wavey: I am running late with my greeting today. Our weather is nice today, 65 with a slight breeze.
Sur, your flowers are beautiful!!! Thank you for sharig them, and Happy Anniversary to you and Dave.
Bill, isn't it wonderful to get to mid 60's instead of so cold. Hope it lasts a while.
Majj, Happy Belated 34th. That is a long time to be married. I married my sweetheart in my teens, I have you and Sue both beat.
Shirley, Have fun and check in when you can. Thanks, for the pics.
Vicki, enjoy your weekend company. I know you will hit it off great.
BN, have a nice weekend. I am guessing that quilt is beautiful!!!
Jeff, Congratulations!!! It's fun to shop with winnings. I did that once and hit 2 $1,000,00 jackpots in 30 minutes on two machines. At the same time Al hit a $1000,00. We came home with $2,500.00 to the good and purchased our china cabinet. That was my only good jackpot win.

The quilts kinda depend on where they're going. Some missions have very explicit needs/requirements. SOme of the ones going over to Africa can't have Christian symbols on them because the quilts would draw down fire upon the recipient. These are bigger quilts: 60x80". There is another mission that wants lap quilts for disabled folk. Those are 45x45 and less girlie is better, since most of the guys who get 'em are disabled vets. I'm not sure what the gig is tomorrow. I'll find out if I get to get there.
Most of the quilts use left-over material the church has acquired through garage sales or donations. Some of the quilts are very nifty anyway, but others... are ... uh ... are more functional.
BN can we see pics of the quilts:emot-danc How long do they take to make??
Thank you everyone for the anniversary wishes.

I don't have any way to take pics and post 'em online.
Imagine squares of cloth sewn together in (usually) diagonals or alternating patterns. That's really all there is to it.
All told, I'd say they take about 4 hours. Much of that is piecing it and doing the final binding. It really goes fast.
I know what quilts are but don't you have to make templates:confused: I fancied having a go but thought it so time consuming.

Nope. We made Bill and Ted's Most Excellent Generic Quilts. Nothing fancy here. We just decide that the average size for a quilt will be ... 36x48 or whatever, then we figure out what size squares are needed, cut 'em out, arrange 'em, sew 'em then put the guts together (batting, back, and binding) and TADA! Done!
