Hi, I am a new member here. I presently have 2 parrots, a Congo African Grey and a Budgerigar. They both are still young, about 1+ and 2+ years old. I am still learning from them everyday. I hope to learn more about parrots here, to share some stories of us with you, and to help the birds' companions as much as I can.

Hi Everybody,

Wow! My birds and I were overwhelmed with such a warm welcome!!! Thank you sooooo much.

I am still getting acclimatized with this bird forum. I don't even know how people see the picture of my CAG I put there because I cannot see it myself. :-)

Yes, he is a male. His name is Oliver. He has a very deep low voice. So when he mimcs my voice, it sounds like a man trying to speak in a woman's voice. Hmm... I wonder if that is normal. :-)

I look forward to share more pictures. Joey, my little budgie said he wants his pictures on the web site too once his mommy finds out how to do it. :-)

Have a fabulous day, everybody!!!!!!

Lana

Hi Everybody,

Oliver said, "Thank you very much for the compliment on the picture." That was a picture taken last year. I put more pictures of Oliver and Joey taken both last year and this year on my updated profile. I am not sure if that is the right place to put the link. Please advise me if you cannot see anything. I am still learning. Thank you so much and have a GREAT day! (It's Friday!!!!) :-)))

Cheers!

Oh my goodness, I just found and watched Superbirdie's video clip. She is amazing! How old is Akeela? What a happy bird! She looks about the same size as Oliver. Oliver is about 500 grams.

I am actually just lucky about Oliver and Joey. Esp. Oliver, he is a very difficult eater. He does not like any kind of pellets. But I insist putting it in his cage everyday with the hope that one day he will change his mind. I have been putting Harrison's (Shirley's recommendation) for more than a year now. I end up throwing them away every morning when I change his food.

Oliver is super-picky and will eat more if I hand the food to him. But I do not do that very often so that it won't become a habit for him.

Oh, where is Glorious Greys? Me too, I am excited when I see other birds. :-) I just looooooooove them!!!

wow, Lana, Oliver is good in sz for a CAG!! Akeela is only in the low 400 range maybe even lower, I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember w/out looking for where I wrote it down. She is petite in sz. Sinbad is much larger than her, as males usually are.

Glad u liked her video, she's a ham all the way. I was so happy to get that on video, as I have not heard her really sing like that again. Sinbad is picking up on some of the stuff she does and chatters to each other, it's really cute. Need to get that on video.

Glorious Greys is in the species index below.....you got to check it out!! hehee got some more pics of mine and updates on my adopted boy Sinbad, who's coming along real well.

Akeela was the same way, about pellets. One day just took her old food out and replaced it w/pellets. If they are hungry enough, they will eat it trust me. Just be sure you don't give too many treats while converting and watch his poop to be sure he is eating (dark dark little poops=not eating). And when you see him eating, make a big stink about it and reward him w/a treat after. Persistance is key, so dont' give up!! You can do it!! And most of all, all our birds eat w/us. They know when it's time to eat, and do better as a family eating. Make a big deal w/that as well, like mmmmmmm this is sooo darn good , you got to have some :funny:

I'll be looking for your posts in Greys!!! :highfive:

Hi Jean,

Thank you very much. I love Elvie's pics too and love to see more. Actually, an umbrella cockatoo was also one of my choices for parrots. But because of my work schedule, I cannot have a cockatoo yet. They look so sweet. You both are very lucky to have each other.

Very best,

Lana

Thank you, for your compliment about Elvie. I think, you made a wise choice going with the CAG since you work away from home. They are often a more congenial species that require less personal attention. Luckily, Elvie is a well adjusted too and plays independently on his own. When we got him we uderstood his needed to have many toys that interest him and keep him amused. A male too is more often stronger willed and takes a lot of challenging behavorial turns as they mature. We have had to deter his testing behavior during these times. Mature U2 males are also strong willed and love to be the center of attection as they strut their stuff. It's their male pride! He has made me study U2 behavoral traits in depth due to his many challenges at different stages of his life.

I do not know if you have checked out Elvies website yet. There are a more pics there. It is linked to my signature. There are also more posted in Cockatoo Town. You may have to click on 75 days at the bottom of the page to see some that have been posted or moved here from the old board.
