JimL, Scotty, anyone ... Can you see her eyes and what color she is?

She is two years old, and I got her from a breeder at the Michiana fair -- she shows her Bourke's in contests and has a scrapbook with ribbons galore! I'd never heard of a "Bourke's Bird Show"! and would love to go to one. She was quite knowledgeable... (Her name was Crystal - And I'm not changing it)

P.S. - Scotty, she's "not tame" and has never been clipped. She has been in a large flight with other Bourke's. We've put her in a cage by herself in our bedroom until she gets used to us. We aren't "turning her loose" in the bedroom until she's calm with us and her new environment -- although she's obviously a good flyer, she's also a very fast and powerful flyer, and so there's no sense in her becoming frightened, disoriented, and flying into a wall at such speeds. She will be allowed out to fly in the room later on and she'll be much safer when she's comfortable with her new environment. Her twitter and song are a little different from our Bourke's.

SHIRLEY,
very pretty. she is like my little red eye. i've been told that color would be considered a rosy fallow.
speaking of my red eye, her 2 little babies are just over a week old now.

She's just beautiful  I LOVE the red eyes.
When my Blush's flights grew in, and she got out, it was very scary, she was still wild and had the whole house to fly in. as I said before, she bonked her head twice on the ceilings. I threw Maggie's little blanket over her because I was afraid she would take off again, she to was a strong flier. Now she's in with Lee and I hope she doesn't get out again, because she is still in a huge area, when Luv and Lee get out, there flight is tempered with experience, they fly slow and let you pick them up,they kind of look around while your telling them not to sneak out any more:funny: OH GREAT NAME

So far Blush won't let Lee near her, BUT she does sit on the perch on the nest:) I don't know if this bird had any attention at all, she sure isn't interested in any of my Bourkes food, except the keet seed. I ordered the Harrison mash and also there food, for them, they love the Beak appeti't[veggie delight]and beak appet'it came out with an egg food, they love it, any thing I put in the cage ,Lee flies to, express! and checks what I put in the dish, he's a healthy eater, sooooo if I get any babies and he joins in the feeding, they will be well nourished. She allows me in the flight cage with out getting frightened now, but I don't trust that she won't try and get out. Lee on the other hand is always trying to pass my hand and sneak out!
When I go to there cages [Lee AND Luv]especially Lee, he tries to get up, or down, were ever I am, and put his face in mine, and he twirps so cute, he's a real joy to have :agree:

:thanx: You're right, Jim! She told me she was a "pink" with red eyes. After studying Bob Fregeres' (http://www.bourkes-parakeet.nl/pg/E-version.html) site, I've concluded she must be a Rosy Fallow. Her mother was Rosy (Opaline) and her father was "pink w/red eyes" meaning "Opaline (Rosy) Fallow". I explained to the breeder about Kilroy's color, and how you bred her daughter to a dark=eyed male (right?) and got the surprise of a red-eye baby. She said entirely possible! Somewhere, the recessive is being passed and you paired up such that it expressed itself.

Now if I bred her to another Rosy Fallow, all her babies would be Rosy Fallow. And if I bred her to a Lutino, she'd produce Rubino. Right?

Jim - Her eyes are red, but they photograph darker in the shaded bedroom, even with the flash. Are there different degrees of "red" in brilliance? Do yours look obviously red, or is it when the light catches them just right?

Scotty, whenever I let her out to fly, first of all, our bedroom isn't very large, and I'll have the drapes pulled. But I'll take her in our bathroom (the whole cage) and close the door. I won't let her loose in a large area to start with until I know how calm she is out of her cage. That won't be for whatever period of time I think it might be before she seems at ease with us and everything going on. She's not nervous, but she's cautious, wary.

don't know about the breeding her with another fallow, but i have heard that a fallow with a lutino will produce rubino. not sure if all offspring would be a visual or not.
correct on the dark eyed male.
and my red eye is not really noticable unless the light hits her eyes.

and scotty, i have had some of my unclipped not so tame bourke's babies get out and the best thing i found to do is just stand still until the have settled some where and then go and get them.

That's what we do... stand still.. let them settle, then go get them.

Jim, it was hard to get accurate color...I think she's a shade lighter or maybe a shade more muted than the photos here...she's a bit lighter than our Rosies... She looks more like Lily, actually. The "tan/yellow" extends to her shoulders, whereas on others it is just toward the lower part of their wings.

If you get a Bourke's, you'll never be sorry! And they can likely live with your finches! Ours do.

Jim, I should add... fyi...that the color on Crystal's wings is VERY similar to the color of Kilroy's sibling when we picked Kilroy out. the lady was "all excited" about the yellow showing up, and I just liked "peach" and so we picked Kilroy. I never saw Kilroy's parents. I know neither were "normal", and assumed they were Rosies.
