As all of you know ive been wanting a budgie for a while. well i finally got one :). someone contacted me to adopt him since their daughter lost interest in him. hes a great little guy. will step up but is very nervous. i think that once he settles i might get someone to clip him for me so i can do taming without him flyinf around the house(Wich puts him at risk of the cats)
I dont know what to call him. Floyd comes to minf got some reason

Congratulations Chamille he is a cutie. I had a blue one that looked just like him years ago named peanut. Budgies are little birds with big personalities, i love them.
I like the name Floyd.
How old is he?
Her's gorgeous, too cute:heart:
My first ever bird was a Budgie, I was 5 years old and he was the cutest thing. He is what started my interest in birds.

Floyd sure is a cutie, Camille! Excellent photos..is that a "mite protector" thingie hanging on his cage in the first pix? If yes, pitch it, he doesn't need it and it could be harmful.

I'm curious, now... I've never used one of the mite things and I don't plan on it, but why are they harmful?
Also, Camille, I really like the name Floyd. I think you should keep it! What a cutie! I should have you babysit MAverick... maybe you can tame him... :funny: He hates his daddy...

Insecticide... they are a little container of insecticide. And some birds are tempted to start chewing on them and trying to get the 'stuff' inside the thing out. But even if not - none of us would want to spray bug spray around our bird cages, let alone keep an active insecticide container there that is emitting the insecticide on purpose to "kill the mites" (I've never in all my years actually had a bird with mites, but if I did, I think it would have to be treated quite differently than hanging a container). But in the olden days... these little doo-dads were quite the thing, and found on many cages. They are still sold and recommended by many "pet stores".

There are many good brands - Harrison's, Zupreem Natural, Roudybush, to name just a few. I could only say, keep tryin'... Petey only now, 5 months later, has started to try to taste something other than pellets. Last night I made some birdie pasta and beans and he slightly touched his beak to it - a big deal for him! Over the years, I've had more 'little bird picky eaters' than big bird picky eaters. Petey wouldn't even think of trying a veggie or a fruit, but Sammy-tiel will eat anything you put in front of him.

You know, along the same lines, I have no idea how much validity this has, but my parents used to use a flea/tick color on their himalayan cat which he wore all the time. He died of pancreatic and liver cancer, and their vet said it was a direct cause of the constant use of the flea/tick insecticide collar. Whether this is true, or common - I don't know. But I do know that their small animal vet specifically named this as the culprit... interesting...

That makes sense... I always thought they were something else, like some bird-safe-mite-preventing stuff, not insecticide... I never thought Pet Shops would actively sell stuff that's actually bad for the animal it's "made for"... I'm so naïve, sometimes.

Yes, you'd be suprised! Many 'bird' stores don't; many 'pet' stores do.
