Depends on your house arrangement.
To have a fully flighted bird, you and everyone in your house must agree to be completely psychotic about closing all doors and windows and turning off all ceiling fans before letting the chicken out. Toxic house plants and other dangerous animals must be removed from the bird's flight area. My personal rule is that no birds are allowed out when the stove is on.

Since this is not an emergency, I've moved it to this forum.
Thanks for providing an excellent answer Birdnerd :)
Doggie: You do not need to boil water for your bird before she bathes in it.
More dangers! fans, ceiling or other models are deadly to your bird. Anything cooking on a stove. I do hope you do not cook with non stick pans in your house. Their fumes can be deadly to birds. Or any burnt fumes can be deadly. A flighted bird can easily fly out of a door if ome other household member opens it for just a few seconds. They can also fly into a glass window. I have heard of birds flying into an open toilet and drown instantly.
Flighted birds are only for those who have taken all precautions to protect their birds surroundings. I would not suggest it in your case.

Is this the same one that was almost cat food????? I don't see a good picture here....
Well its nice that fids can fligh around ONLY in a safe enviroment...my guys are flighted but have their areas to fly to and from and living here with a coiuple of oldies who anticipate every move I feel its just as safe as them being non flighted ..Its an individual choice depending on your home and life style....BE VERY CAREFUL if you allow this nothing more heart wrenching than loosing a loved fid...

OH i just did that when she hurt her wing i was afraid that the Chlorine in the tap water might hurt her
I understand, that was a good precaution to take. I am glad to hear she is doing well. I hope he is kept in a happy and safe environment in the future.
I think it is wise to have boiled or purified water for your bird to drink. Some areas do not have good safe water for drinking. My bird never gets tap water to drink.

If the bird is fluttering around in the cage with joy and happiness, that shouldn't be an issue. If your bird is bouncing off the walls and floor because she's scare spitless, that's another matter.
'Tiels sometimes do this when they have "nightfrights," and yes, they can do violence to themselves in those cases.
I've been following this and the post about the same bird nearly being cat food and I agree with BN if they get a fright they can damage themselves.
IMO and this is only my experience, a contented bird a budgie size and larger doesn't constantly fly around in the cage. They can do this if spooked by something outside like a cat , dog etc. A cat inside would completely freak Ollie (tiel).
LK you say you are 11, do your parents help and supervise? because if your bird is constantly flying into the bars it will inevitably harm himself, the fact the cat nearly chewed him up is not helping, the poor baby must be terrified.
You asked for advise and you have received plenty here, so the ball is now in your court.
Like Neil, (he suggested you read his post about Pepper to see how much patience and love is needed) I too am 51 and I have had birds for over 20 years but I am still learning and have received valuable advise from people here. Even with years of experience, we can never assume we know everything.

If she is flying around in her cage there must be something that is frightening her terribly. :( You are the one responsable to keep her safe and happy. Never allow anything to frighten her/him.

Not always.
Fluffing in prep for a nap is normal. Fluffing because he's chilly is also normal. Fluffing due to feeling threatened is a defensive mechanism, "See! I'm BIG! YOU don't want to mess with me!" You have to consider as a whole all the body language being presented.
Another consideration, many birds are not keen on quick movements and loud, sudden noises. Such occurrences make my pi go into attack mode, my girlie tiel HISS and run, and my male tiel snipe.
Here's a link to behaviour http://www.mickaboo.com/understanding.html there is a section on illness as well. Maybe you could do a school project about birds to help you learn.

Cool site ... for general info. I have some examples of some of mine, particularly the pi, for whom those descriptions don't match, but Pi are a little ... odd.
