View Full Version : so it begins.........
It's been since February that I've seen this behavior. Sophie was sweet as could be, her normal self, as recently as Sunday. Then all of a sudden........... BAM!!! ................. lil miss moody shows up!!
Saturday I got these really cute pictures of her around my P'let and Lovebird. So sweet and gentle she was. Today she is cage jumping to chase them, well maybe just the P'let, away from THEIR play gym!!! She climbed down the rope to the towels that are under her play gym to get at the cup she has shredded off of its rope. She starts doing the chicken scratch thing, not really moving anything just going threw the motions.
Of course she wants my attention more then ever but her mood swings are already split second. Heavy duty PMS eh? Oh well, lets see if I can minimize the scars. lol This and the molt begins as well. Sometimes I can see it in her eyes, "I don't know why, but I have to bite you" poor girl. But she is no where near as bad as some of the stories I've read. whew.
Yes, it definitely sounds like she is blooming into the mature chcik of the house!
I went through some horrendous bites when Elvie's hormones peaked over a span of 6 years. He nailed me several times out of total frustration. Thank goodness he has mellowed immensely the past few years. I've only got nailed once about two years ago and that was hormone season and being possessive over one of his toys. To top it off he feels terrible once he realizes he has hurt me.

Yeah, that sounds about right! Coco was doing a big molt, laid off for a few days, and yesterday lost alot of feathers including another wing feather. Last night she was being sweet, and we went to shake hands, and she tried to grab my finger and pull it up to her beak to bite!:omy: :yikes: I didn't fall for the trick, but one second later, she acted like she never, ever ever did that. :watched: It's THAT time of year.......

Hehehe...My female SIE Sonya would literally rip the flesh right off ya  She was a bird that would pinch up a good bit of skin, twist, then rip...oh yea...I remember those days all too well and have the scars to prove it.
I didn't care...I knew she was very hormonal and I loved her through it all

I had some terrible bites before I learned to see that half-second body language warning and to MOVE FAST out of that way of that Tango-beak. Also, I do not usually approach Len if either of us is holding him. Possessive kicks in. (On Tango's part. I'm pretty mellow cuz I feel so loved:rotflmao:)
But, yesterday, I put a new swing up for Tango in our office. len and I were happily working at our respective computers, sort of back to back. Tango got on My shoulder and was watching me type with that "pre-gonna-take-you-out" look so I handed him off to Len.
A few minutes later, Len was showing me something on his screen so I was leaning over a bit toward him and I just got stupid. Tango was whistling happily to me, flirting. Then Bam! Little pinch on the lip and as I jerked back he grabbed my shoulder and twisted HARD. Made a little hole in my shirt. I have a big bruise today where he nailed me. Sheesh! But it was really my fault for not being more alert especially during hormone times.
And, by the way, his foot is looking pretty good and he lets me put the vet's cream on it. Tango has not touched it since last Monday when he ripped on it. Life with bird...wonderful and strange, all at the same time.
Parrots are NOT domesticated. We must try to understand their world. These are words I say as I nurse a bite!
