I guess he's a boy. He whistles and talks up a storm all the time! He'll be a year in October and I've had him since he was about 3-1/2 wks old!

Something about Tucker that no one knows is that on his very first flight... he broke his left wing. :( We didn't know he broke it until much, much later. He held it upward for many days like it was sprained. I finally had Dr. Cook see it. Well, he had broken it, and it had healed, and is permanently in a slightly upward position. When he had all his flights in, he could fly just fine. There are pics here of his flights in the upward position, and if you notice, one wing is always slightly higher than the other.

On is very first flight, he landed between the sofa and the curtains with his wings in an upward position. He never made a sound and he tried to fly again and again, as fledging babies do. He continued to hold his one wing upward a little, so we figured it was just sprained. There really was nothing that could have been done, short of surgery and pinning, which wouldn't have been recommended on a bird his size.

Just some fyi info on little Tucker.

PS... thought I'd moved all his pics over here from the old Board site... but evidently not... I will if requested...

Thank you Jean... This happened a very long time ago, of course, and we felt really badly about it, and just didn't even know he'd broken it, and then when he never did put it back down... I finally faced reality and had Dr. Cook take a look... and she told me Cockatiels, especially males, are the most erratic fliers as babies, they just fly into everything, and land in the craziest ways. I felt so guilty and she kept telling me he was fine, that we couldn't have prevent it it... he only flew from chest height to the floor... but I didn't know it was broken so off he flew again, problably 8 times at least that day. No squawks just flight after flight! :o :( But it healed and never changed position. And he never had his wings clipped until recently, and he flew just fine...

I think I wanted Tucker to be known as "Tucker" and not Tucker-the-broken-winged -tiel before I told everyone. And now that he's all grown up, I'm telling everyone. Does that make sense?

Thanks, Leah... and I know I'm partial, but I think he's just the prettiest cockatiel I've ever seen! I had no intentions of getting a cockatiel when I stopped by my friend's table at the bird show last Dec. She had a clutch of 7. Tucker came toddling over to me repeatedly, crying all the time at me. He was relentless! And SO adorably cute and beautiful!

LOL You can be partial but truly not just to be nice Tucker is beautiful! Harley and Gretchen are the only birds I got from breeders that I actually got to pick well, Harley picked me ran right up to me and gave me a kiss jumped on my shoulder and didn't want to get off :) even Dixie isn't the bird that I picked , she was the youngest and I picked the oldest. I drove to Orlando to get Gretchen, I love the lutinos, all of them and Tucker is one handsome guy!:D

You are very brave. Lockheed was always such a good flyer, even with her wings trimmed, that I got into the habit of not taking the little guys outside. Now, what with Avian TB running nuts around Austin, the big guy doesn't go outside, either.

Yesterday, on the way to chruch, I saw a guy riding his bike down the street with his cockatiel on his shoulder. He's very brave, too.

Tucker's a cutie!

Freebie has a permanently goofed wing, too. My ex-hubby threw him at a wall.

I'm really sorry about Freebie... that's really too bad. I hope that guy's Karma comes around....

glad you got rid of him in time... for your own good and safety...

Tucker can't make from the floor to the bed now, poor thing... but he tries...but if we left more flights he could...

We put him on top of the ceiling fan with the others in the bedroom, and he's just happy as can be! Thinks he's King of the bedroom! Hisses at anyone who flies to his blade and they fly off to another blade! Makes his day! :D
