I just noticed on the Harrison's website there are some new products for 'reptiles and small animals.'

http://www.exoticdvm.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=healx.stdProduct&product_id=249&parentGroup_id=82&

I haven't had a chance to thoroughly check them out, but was wondering about this 'wound spray' and if it might be ok for birds or something Tango might gain help from???

Here's what the description says from their website: Provides soothing topical relief for skin inflammation and irritation • Promotes healing of sensitive skin and superficial lesions • Provides a nontoxic remedy to promote healing of skin disorders • Uses transdermal technology for efficacy of topical application

And, here's what the ingredient list from the website is:
A patented quaternary ammonium solution for analgesia suspended in distilled water and aloe vera juice.

It looks like you apply a fine mist 2x a day or as vet-directed... not that bad of a price at $12.95 for 8 ounces if it is a viable option.

Out of curiosity, would love to hear your thoughts, Dr. C. if you have some spare time to check out. Anything that might help Tango always gets my attention... (smile)

Hi Robin-

The Healx spray is good stuff and may be beneficial to Tango. However, I think I remember Tango's mom saying that he has not messed with his foot for over a week and that it is slowly healing. That being the case, I would not be inclined to spray or put anything on the wound that might draw Tango's attention back to his foot.

I must agree with everyone else who said that Tango was experiencing pain in the foot (for whatever reason) and that was what started him picking at it. Now that he is on metacam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (great stuff), and improving, I feel that Tango is on his way to recovery.

God bless you, Robin, for being so thoughtful and concerned about Tango-thanks much :tighthug:

Wow, I continue to be so amazed and feel so blessed to have concern from you both and others on the board. Thank you, Dr C, for your thoughts. The great news is that Tango has not reopened his wound for 3 weeks tomorrow. We have done a pretty good job of increasing stimulation although that continues to unfold and there is room for lots more expansion of that.

It was so great of you, Robin to think of this and to ask Dr C to check it out. So thoughtful.
We made a recheck with our vet for 01/14.
Even greater news is that tonight we got home at 5:30. Tango gets to run around on the bed while I change and then I give him scritch time. Tonight he ran around like our former sassy M2, hollering and acting comical and hopping like a bucking bronco. Bearing weight on both feet and not flicking his foot at all for 15 minutes. Nor preening it. Dr C is correct that he is not biting his foot. He carefully scrapes off any salve/cream that we put on it (per our vet still using it 2x/day) So we try to distract him a few minutes after applying it 2x/day. Wow, we are so happy to have him returning to wild activity and goofiness!!
It is time to get his dinner and have some time on the Atom, a seriously great hit with him. We will give him the medicine too, I am sure that is helping.
Tonight it feels like a little miracle. He is screaming a bit but I'm happy to hear it because it signals a return to more normal behavior.
