The Parrots of Telegraph Hill by Mark Bittner
I don't know if any of you have read but it's a great story, about this guy who spends a lot of his life 'homeless' in search of the meaning of life and all that, and comes across some feral conures in San Francisco and feeds them and becomes very involved, and they also help him to find his 'spiritual' path and a partner. Very moving, made me cry in places, a beautiful story!

Well I just got back from watching the movie, I won't give any of it away but it really made me appreciate the life my birds have here in my home. If you go to a lot of these other forums it seems there is a lot of guilt over keeping birds as pets and out of the wild to fly free. I don't think the wild is such a glorious place to be after watching that although it is breathtaking and beautiful watching them. Even made me cry.
I think the DVD will be coming out soon. We could always ship them to go guys if it comes out in the U.S. first.;)
Here is a link to Mark Bittners site: "The Parrots On Telegraph Hill" You can also sign up for his updates in his newsletter. He has some beautiful parrot pictures.
I see, the book sales made 30 on the all time best sellers list

What an amazing story. He has some really great pictures of the parrots. I wonder when/if the movie will be out in my area? We don't go to movies much, preferring to wait for the DVD so we can watch in the comfort of our own home.

I've seen the movie trailer. I usually like the book as well if not better than the movie, but I can't imagine the book being better than the colorful, musical movie. Has anyone read and seen both?

I started reading the book yesterday, I think the book so far is better than the movie but it's nice to actually be able to see and meet the parrots he talks about in the book and also the way he describes San Fransisco and the hill.
