I haven't said anything about Chloe's problem because I was afraid of the worst.
She had a cloaca prolapse about three weeks ago. At first it went out and in but two weeks ago, it stayed out all day. I took her to three vets here and nothing was better. The third vet gave me the name of Dr. Susan Clubb, in West Palm Beach.
The night of May 13th I could see Chloe was not feeling well at all. She just stood and closed her eyes. She wouldn't come to me. She wouldn't eat anything, even peanut butter. About 10:30 that night, I called Dr. Clubb and left a message about Chloe.
Saturday morning I called 4 avian vets in the state. I found one open in Jupiter. She told me to bring her down. I left another message for Dr. CLubb telling her what we were doing and I preferred her if she got my message. About 10 miles out of Jupiter, Dr. Clubb called me back and said to bring her on down to her.
I can't tell you how upset I was, having to leave my girl. She was sooooo sick and just worn out. Monday Dr. Clubb did surgury. It is a relatively new procedure for prolapse problems.
I brought my girl home last Friday. It only took a couple of days and she is back to my sweet Princess. She takes antibiotics for another week and then she has special vitamins and herbs that she will need forever. She is really good about taking her medicine. She seems to know.
Dr. Clubb is in West Palm Beach which is 120 miles south of me but she has become my vet for all four of our birds. She is absolutely the best person I have ever met as to knowing birds. Also she is just a good person. No "holier than thou" attitude at all.
The first day we met, she assured me that it wasn't my fault. She said "Never feel bad for loving your bird. The experts on the internet probably don't even own a bird." Then she said "As soon as we get this problem fixed, we'll work on those feathers." I told her I didn't care what Chloe looked like, I still loved her. She said back to me "But Gary, Chloe cares." I knew I was at the right place.
She later told me that she had done Chloe's beak and nails too. SHe said "It always makes a girl feel better to have a facial and her nails done." AND Chloe's beak is perfect for the first time in three years.
I want to thank Shirley, who post's on this board. When she heard about the problem, she sent me links that I was able to look up. That's when I found out how bad the problem can be, especially in 'too's. If it weren't for her sending me those links, I would have never known. The vets around here just thought it was a nervous habit.
Thank you Shirley.
