I haven't said anything about Chloe's problem because I was afraid of the worst.

She had a cloaca prolapse about three weeks ago. At first it went out and in but two weeks ago, it stayed out all day. I took her to three vets here and nothing was better. The third vet gave me the name of Dr. Susan Clubb, in West Palm Beach.

The night of May 13th I could see Chloe was not feeling well at all. She just stood and closed her eyes. She wouldn't come to me. She wouldn't eat anything, even peanut butter. About 10:30 that night, I called Dr. Clubb and left a message about Chloe.

Saturday morning I called 4 avian vets in the state. I found one open in Jupiter. She told me to bring her down. I left another message for Dr. CLubb telling her what we were doing and I preferred her if she got my message. About 10 miles out of Jupiter, Dr. Clubb called me back and said to bring her on down to her.

I can't tell you how upset I was, having to leave my girl. She was sooooo sick and just worn out. Monday Dr. Clubb did surgury. It is a relatively new procedure for prolapse problems.

I brought my girl home last Friday. It only took a couple of days and she is back to my sweet Princess. She takes antibiotics for another week and then she has special vitamins and herbs that she will need forever. She is really good about taking her medicine. She seems to know.

Dr. Clubb is in West Palm Beach which is 120 miles south of me but she has become my vet for all four of our birds. She is absolutely the best person I have ever met as to knowing birds. Also she is just a good person. No "holier than thou" attitude at all.

The first day we met, she assured me that it wasn't my fault. She said "Never feel bad for loving your bird. The experts on the internet probably don't even own a bird." Then she said "As soon as we get this problem fixed, we'll work on those feathers." I told her I didn't care what Chloe looked like, I still loved her. She said back to me "But Gary, Chloe cares." I knew I was at the right place.

She later told me that she had done Chloe's beak and nails too. SHe said "It always makes a girl feel better to have a facial and her nails done." AND Chloe's beak is perfect for the first time in three years.

I want to thank Shirley, who post's on this board. When she heard about the problem, she sent me links that I was able to look up. That's when I found out how bad the problem can be, especially in 'too's. If it weren't for her sending me those links, I would have never known. The vets around here just thought it was a nervous habit.

Thank you Shirley.

Oh Gary, you are just so sweet and I just do what I do. I'm so glad you've stayed in touch all these years... And Chloe is one Lucky Lady to have YOU in her life!

What you said, No "holier than thou" attitude at all. describes my vet Dr. Cook perfectly, and she will not hesitate to refer or confer with other avian vets if she feels that is the next best step. All our birds LOVE her. And so do we. And she's only 10 minutes away! :emot-danc

I can't wait to see more pics of Chloe!! Been awhile!

Hugs to you and Chloe and Becki and Monet, Picasso, and Olive!

(Now go read my post of last night in the African Poicephalus forum - and show Becki, too)

Awwwwww, I'm sorry to hear about Chloe but I am glad she is doing better. I am glad you found an excellent vet though, I'll have to keep her in mind. I'm a little south of West Palm but it sounds like she is worth it! I have a vet now that I absolutely love but he only works 2 days a week so that makes it a little difficult at times. Keep us updated on Chloe. :)

I am glad all is well. I do not live far from Dr. Clubb, as I live in W P Bch. A good vet is well worth the drive. I am blessed by several good avian specialist in my area.

Oh Gary so sorry you went through this with Chloe and glad you found a good vet. My vet is amazing but does have the attitude you describe.

I hope she recovers well, Toto had surgery a couple of years ago and was at the vets for 11 days, it was heartbreaking. I gave him meds in oatmeal and he was none the wiser:funny: He made a full recovery and was back to his old self in no time:)
Shirley also helped me through it she "held my hand" throughout and was always there for me when I was down, she's an angel:wub:

What a scare! Your litle girl is very fortunate to have you to love and care for her. You've always been there for her when she needed you the most.

I am sorry to hear about her cloaca prolapse. That is indeed a serious problem. I am glad you were able to get her to a qualified avian surgeon. The success of this surgery widely depends on the skills of the surgeon.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Wow, I'm so happy you found a skilled avain vet to help Chloe!! I'm also glad you shared your story here. It give many of us who have Too's, comfort in knowing someone else went through this and can offer advise and encouragement. I hope any of us never have to deal w/this, but glad to hear it can be helped.

So interesting how I posted not long ago asking about this same problem.

Please give her lots of kisses and scritches from me!!
