I want to make sure Pepper's cage is 100% sanitary for when I get her home tonite. What do you suggest for a cleaner/disinfectante????
I use 10% bleach/ 90% water / a little dawn soap mixture. scrub then rinse well and you should have a very clean and sanitary cage. If you have a steam cleaner those work great too. There are other cleaners on the market but I have always found this mixture works well

Others will prob offer better suggestions than I, but here goes,,,
If you can, Hot water and a weak bleach solution, if you can do so. If the cage if super dirty from droppings, you might what to watch it due to the ammonia from droppings, and the bleach getting together(a can tell you a story about me cleaning my horse stalls when i moved into my home, they were used as fowl stalls toward the end,,not a fun thing to do .cleaning with bleach!)
Or try any of the items found at a good pet shop, think they have sanitizers,,
Or i'm sure you can find a houshold cleaner/sanitizer that should do the trick.
I'm lucky enuf to be near a "farm" store, they have loads of different livestock/poultry habitat cleaners etc .
Other might shut me down about the bleach solution route,,dunno.but i think if you use a weak enuf solution, and rinse very well, you should be OK,,,
Anyone else?

LOL , i was a bachelor for a bit,,,had no one else to blame for stuff, so i don't think i was lazy LOL.
Also, if you can do the cleaning outside, more the better, Murphy's Law sez ,Bleach will go to wherever you don't want it to go,,
and if you have access to a garden house outside, more pressure from the hose will help in cleaning easier,,just rinse the cleaning are well, to dilute the solution on /around the ground. no sense in advertising the fact a Bachelor was using Bleach! LOL!:rotflmao:
I'm off to help a friend dock her pontoon in the lake. Be back later.

I'm still on vacation, i can get there in,,,,,never mind LOL
I never let Elvie's cage really get dirty so that may be why it works well for me. All poop is wiped up each day and often several times a day. LOL

I use Avian-Elite Quick Clean from Canopy Scientific. It has Natural Orange Oil. It cleans and deodorizes with a great orange smell. No chemicals to worry about.

ALl advice taken and put to use.... cage srubbed for 2 hrs with the bleach and soap solution... It hasn't ever, even when new, been this clean and germ free... not that I let it get dirty, just want to make sure Pepper has every advantage coming home from the vet. I clean every day, but its like spring cleaning. I wonder if she would mind if I moved in LOL>>>>

I know you'd have a good time if you were here, we always have fun boating. She and had had speed boats but, this is her first pontoon. Good thing I have been around them quite a bit in the past. It was rather easy with the electric wench. It is docked on the lake at the marina now. We took it out for a 45 minute run before we docked it.
I have known June for many years. She her husband, Al, I met when we both lived in CA. We used to all go to the Lake Mead and the Colorado river together when we both had speed boats.
We are planning on going out for a few hours in the morning. That will give us time for a nice lake run and then again on Thursday afternoon.
Neil, I am sure she will like her spanking clean home. Who knows, maybe she will let you visit. LOL
Handy hint: I have a bottle brush I clean Elvie's cage with. It works great in the corners and hard to get at places.

Ahh the days of one bird!!
We use Oxy Gele
Mix a dollop with a spray bottle of water, spray it on, it turns it to "pudding" (isn't that a nice picture!) and then just wipe it off and then go over it again with water. Bird safe, cleans it well.
We keep it mixed up and then just shake the bottle, and we're ready to go. Just label it carefully so you don't spritz your bird with it accidentally!

I'm sure she wouldn't, so long as you use the bathroom elsewhere... (sorry, note the time. gotta go to bed now!)

a very weak bleach and water mixture I have added this mixture to a spray bottled and sprinsed down the cage well till it was drenched then let it sit in the sun for about an hour or so then rinse very well you want no trace of the bleach left on the cage but this all outside..even weak some people can't handle the bleach smell..I don't use bleach anymore cause of this. White vinager and water is also a great cleaner organic and won't harm the birds..another product to use that you can only order online is called Oxyfresh cleansing Gele' the main disinfecting ingrediant is stablized chlorine dioxide great disinfectant no smell, rinses clean and won't harm the birds..Oxyfresh was used by a Dr. Ritchie of Georgia University when they were trying ot see what would be effective against Polyoma..they found oxyfresh killed the polyoma virus withing about 5-10 minutes alot of breeders use this to clean brooders and to disinfect handfeeding syringes..great stuff and you only need a couple drops goes along way a bottle will las you quite a while..I prefer the oxyfresh over bleach anyday.

A pressure washer can work wonders as long as you don't have a power coating on the cage - just plain steel - but by heck does it work!!

no powerwasher here, but I love my steam cleaners works great for softening conure poop that I swear cements to the cage in minutes...
