Chloe went to Dr. Clubb a couple of weeks ago for her yearly exam. She had something that required Diflucan Susp ML and Baytril Susp ML. 0.5cc orally or 1cc on her favorite food. Once a day for seven days.

I just realized that I put 0.5cc in her peanut butter TWICE a day. Putting it in her peanut butter is the same as giving it to her orally. She gets every last drop.

Now I am back to mixing Bird Bene-Bac Gel, about a 1/8 inch long strip into her peanut butter, every night. I was told by another vet that she needs this after antibiotics.

Today I received, from Dr. Clubb, a real official looking certificate that says "DNA Test Result" and it has Chlamydia-P.: Negative.

There is a place for Polyoma:-, PBFD:-, Pacheco's: -. It is from Avian Biotech International in Tallahassee. Only the Chlamydia-P.: is filled in with anything. The other's just have a dash.

Does all of this sound OK ???

My reason for taking her to Dr. Clubb in the first place was... Her annual check up AND Chloe would stand on my leg and search out new small, about 1/4-3/8 long, blood feathers and mash them in her beak. Usually one's along the leading edge of her feathers, closes to her body or one's on her chest. Then she would take the smashed blood feather in her beak, rock back and forth and all of a sudden, jerk it out. Then she would spit it on the floor.

I picked some up and saw what they were. That's how I knew what she was doing. It is molting season. No question. She would stand out of my reach and do it. You could tell it hurt, just the way she would rock back and forth before she would jerk it out. Like she was preparing herself for the pain. And the only one's I saw her do were new blood feathers.

She has the longest tail and wing feathers that she has ever had. Very uneven but by far the longest I have ever seen. Some of her tail feathers are as long as a normal U2 and have no bite marks at all. BUt this other behaviour is new.

It was close to her yearly exam when she started this so I took her down there. The doctor said it sounded like a protein deficiency but without the test she couldn't tell. A few days later I got a call from her telling me about this bacteria thing and a couple of days after that I got the bottles of medicine. The medication is done. I didn't use the entire bottles but I went the full seven days. She is still picking, but not as bad.

Are you absolutely sure you are happy in Indiana ??? Doesn't Central Florida sound a lot better ??? Say... oh I don't know, Melbourne/Palm Bay/Cocoa Beach area ???

In your opinion, am I doing the right thing here ??? She seems happy, most of the time. Her poop is a little more runny than I like and the white part isn't as white as I like, but it is much better since the medicine and the Bene-Bac. No weight loss. Eats good. Lots of energy. Good voice when she wants me. The only change in the past three months is I have added apple sauce with blue berry but no added sugar. She LOVES it. Or Granny Smith apple sauce with no added sugar which she likes even more.

I know Dr Cook. I need to stop worrying and get a life. I sure appreciate you being on this board.

Hey Gary-

You already have the great Dr. Clubb-she is the real deal, not just a small-town doc like me :rotflmao:

It's a good thing that the Chlamydia DNA was negative and don't worry about giving Chloe the baytril twice a day-it won't hurt her.

Gary, NO ONE else could take care of your Princess like you, the Royal HandServant. The fact that she still does some feather destructive behavior (FDB) is proof that her previous existence was very traumatic.

FDB is a complex disease, comprising multiple etiologies, including behavioral and physical issues. I compare it to diabetes or heart disease-you can get better, but it is a matter of control rather than cure.

Since Chloe's retrices and remiges are the longest ever, I would say you are doing everything right :goodjob:

BTW, my primary directive is education. Look up the words that you don't know ;)

Thank you Dr. Cook. You are every bit as "real deal" as Dr. Clubb is, for sure.

I knew all the words. I read a lot. Can I have a job with you now ??? I'll work for room and board.

You know, Gary... she's owns the rental house next door... and there's room in the upstairs of her clinic for storage and such... some nice rooms up there... and you'd love the small town of Cicero, with the large lakes and all right in the center of town...

There would just be me, my motorcycle and my Princess. Don't need no storage places. I'm old and tired of hauling "stuff" from one place to another. Well, maybe Picasso too. And Cheyenne. But that is it.

Is the rental big enough for a Cockatoo rescue ???

Is the rental big enough for a Cockatoo rescue ???

Don't tempt me, Gary..I don't have any common sense when it comes to cockatoos :p

Does Indiana have a lottery ??

I was thinking. Since Dr. Cook likes to teach, she could put stuff out here on the board. Those that wanted to could answer the stuff and become avian tech's ???

No ??? Another bad idea ??? I'd work for free ???

I wonder if they make "chains" for motorcycle tires in the winter??? That's what I could invent. I'd get rich and could open my Cockatoo rescue. No cages. Just a big dome over about 10 acres, should do it. Climate controlled.

HEAH !!!! The Biospere down in Arizona. Just me, Chloe, Picasso and Cheyenne. No hurricanes, tornado's, taxes, phone bills, light bills, water bills. You wake up in the morning to the smell of Umbrella Cockatoo, standing on your chest, with her head cocked to one side and staring in your eye.

What a life that would be. I wonder if that Biospere is still going on.

I'll take the rooms above the clinic if I can put rescued cockatoo's up there with me.

:p Her vet techs have 2+ yrs of university classes, complete with lab work (wet labs) and such... (CVT - Certified Vet Tech)

But... her staff could teach you to do other stuff...

And she has some acreage I've been hinting to put a horse on... but she won't hear of it... now if it were turned into a cockatoo dome... she just might go for that!

ALL RIGHT, White KNIGHT !!! Hammer down to Indy town, we gonna move in that room for sure.

I'll build the dome. No horses. Horses are bad for cockatoo's.

How many acres does that lady in Oregon have. The one that you and Dr. Cook are going to see ???
