Hi. I don't have much time, so I need ot make this quick (class tonight)...

I rescued a parakeet that was found on the sidewalk. Cutie little guy and I'm trying to ID the strain. He's got little tufts of feathers above his nostrils. Seems like a fancy strain of budgie. Can someone help me out here? Can't seem to find a picture with one having those tufts.

BTW...my name is Cheryl. I live in Southern California and a sucker for rescuing critters...lol. The other birds I have are two hens and yes, one is a rescue. I like the eggs so much I got another.

I'll have more of an intro later. Just wanted to post this before I'm busy with studies (have an exam this monday...I'm a biological science major).

Thanks
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, welcome to the board.

Any chance you can post a picture or more detail, i.e what colour, size etc.

Welcome Cheryl!

I can't tell without a good clear photo... I'm familiar with regular budgies and English Budgies... and loads of grass 'keets, but the tufts of feathers ???

Hello Cheryl and Welcome!

I can't help with your question, just wanted to say Hi.

There are a lot of people here with experience and knowledge about the little guys. Hope you find the help you need.

Hi Cheryl, :wavey:

I don't know that much about the little birds either but wanted to extend a " warm welcome " to Birds of a Feather. :)

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

Sorry I don't have a picture and my camera was stolen earlier this year. He's fairly small compared to what one would see in Petco or Petsmart. Yellow and green with the typical black barring on the wings, tail, etc...zebra bars on the head with a yellow patch. Nostrils are blue. He's got the little black spots on the neck...one in the shape of a heart...how neat :) Right above the nostril on each side is a small tuft of feathers. Very unique characteristic. I've worked in the pet industry for two decades and don't recall ever seeing that on any parakeet/budgie.

Oops...edit...no black bars on his tail. It's all yellow.
