Hi my name is Camille, also known as Arcadia Reptiles. I'm a cornsnake breeder but i also keep alot of other species of snakes and a green iguana, schneider skink and breed leopard geckos as well. I also have 2 cats and 1 dog. i don't have any birds yet. im a complete beginner with them and only had my first big experience with them yesterday. I decided i wanted to get a bird a couple of weeks ago and went in to the local pets unlimited to see a friend and get to handle the birds and see how they were etc.
So i might be one of the rare people(that i know) who does their research before embarking into the ownership route. I've been trying to decide what species i wanted as a beginner and finally decided on a Caique when i fell in love with at pets unlimited. i love their playfull naughty nature. I've contacted a local breeder and have been put on a waiting list. she also invited me to join the local avian club and go to a meeting next month. i was lucky to find her, she seems like a great breeder and very upstanding.
So now im reading up as much as i can on caique's and basic bird keeping. The one thing ive had trouble finding is pages about training and taming. Also i know caique's arent BIG talkers but what are good way's of teaching a bird to say words or even mimic songs.
Thats pretty much it :). I'll be sure to share pics once i get my little Caique thats for sure.

thanks :). Itll take around 5 months for the eggs to be layed, hatched and weaned. maybe a bit longer so i have alot of waiting to do. its gonna be hard but its for the best since ill be 100% ready once my little bird comes into my life. we plan on buying her or him a big cage with a pile of perches of different sizes a pile of interactive toys. the cage will either have a top perching area or ill get a play tree(or get both) as well. It's deffinetly going to be a big part of our lives like all of our animals are.
Hi Camille
Nice to meet you. You have quite a collection of critters. Good for you that you're researching about Caique's and bird husbandry.
As for training and taming, I highly recommend positive reinforcement and/or operant conditioning. They are one in the same. I use it to the best of my ability and am very pleased with my bird's (2 macaws) behavior and the companionship I have with them.

Hi Camille!
I loved your video of Margaret -- especially the ending where you are petting her! (I gave you 5 stars!)
If you are "waiting for eggs to be laid"... you may wait forever, or for a couple weeks... I would never venture to predict that our Bourke's would "lay eggs" because I wanted them to.
Read all you can from Dr. C's articles here and from Dr. Susan Friedman, and Jim has excellent R+ advice and experience.
Also, a video I made with Dr. Cook took 1st place at the Canis Film Festival - and it's a 7-min R+ with Clicker Training.

Wow -- loved it -- wouldn't it be nice if every animal, reptiles and amphibeans included, could be so loved and well-cared for!

well said. Tommy our burmese python was going to be put down the day after Al got him. supposedly he was so vivious he would tear your arm off. he's never bitten us EVER. he does however hiss alot wich throws some people off. especially with such a big snake. but we love him with all our heart.
Loved the videos, Camille. Margatet is BIG-wow! I can see you have a excellent way with your critters. You'll do just fine with a Caique. As you probably know, behavior is behavior across all species, as is teaching it, so your in great shape.
