Gone on a Murder Mystery Weekend trip? In the late 80's Al and I were off for a nice quiet weekend. We had decided to go to Santa Maria, CA. It is a quiet
smaller town about 30 miles inland from Santa Barbara beach.

We had chose to stay at the Glen Tavern Inn it was a beautiful old hotel built shortly after the turn of the century. When we arrived we discovered they had a Murder Mystery Weekend going on the entire weekend and we were asked if we cared to participate in it at an additional fee. We read the brochure during a cocktail hour and decided it could be fun. We signed up for it and were all to meet in the lobby later that evening for horsd'oeuvres and drinks as the outlined the mystery weekend. We were divided into 4 groups and each group was to meet after the reenactment of a murder which surprisingly took place as we were enjoying our gathering and getting acquainted with each other. A well dressed man was in the large lobby among us during our gathering. While we wee all busy talking he had stepped about 20 feet away from the group, another man came in unobserved by all of us and shot the gentleman. Several in the group were startled and let out a holler when the gunshot was heard. The shooter, wearing slacks and a large overcoat and hat ran out the front doors to an awaiting get away car and sped away out of sight. Meanwhile, the police in uniform showed up in a supposed squad car along with a detective in a dark unmarked car. The police drew a chalk line around the body that was lying on the floor. The ambulance arrived to check the dead man. The mortician arrived and covered the body before it was taken away.

At this time we were all taken on a tour of the hotel and shown rooms where this guest that was shot had stayed and spent his time while he had been a guest at the hotel. He had been to a barber shop on the main floor, a misuse on the main floor, he had been attending private poker games in an upstairs room. He frequented the restaurant and bar and entertained a few different women in the hotel while he made himself at home during his stay. we were given a list of meeting places and times to all meet, then sent on our way to meet with our group. Each group was to investigate the murder and try to figure out who the murderer was. We were to meet for breakfast Saturday morning in the meeting room to discuss the murder plot and get our first clues. After breakfast we went on to investigate the clues. Then we all had dinner with our group. We all met for breakfast in the meeting room to get our second set of clues before we continued our investigation. The first team to solve the mystery was to report to the hotel security with their findings. It was solved. "The murderer was the barber" his wife had cheated with the gentleman on numerous occasions. First place winners won a free stay and a new free mystery weekend. Sorry to say we were the second place team to solve the mystery. However, second place won a free night stay at a later date and was offered a 50% reduction on a new mystery weekend. They used this as a marketing tool to bring you back hoping you would enjoy another different mystery weekend. We opted to use our free stay to enjoy a relaxing weekend about a month later.

THE END OF OUR WEEKEND.
I wish I could remember more details of the investigation, it's been to many years since I have thought about it.
Here is a link to the old hotel we stayed in. Some of the guests in our group felt their rooms were haunted. Al and I did not have any paranormal experiences during our stay.

Sue, it was so much fun and a very captivating experience. I would highly recommend it. There was a train From San Diego, CA to Los Angeles, CA that had a Murder Mystery trip. The murder took place on the train to Los Angeles. All the participants stayed at a hotel during their layover in LA and were to solve the crime during the hotel stay so it could be announced on their train ride home. We had talked about going on it but never seemed to find the time.
