Hello everyone My daughter calls me a copy cat wait til you hear this..Sunday my friend calls shes at a small animal livestock auction, you know the kind with Chickens, goats, pigs etc. She says get up here there fixing to run a Cockatoo thru the auction, Well as she figured I broke the speed limits. Walking down the isles lined with chickens, rabbits and sure enough there is this terrified Goffin in the middle of them. Ok so you all can figure it out after waiting and bidding $200.00 later Im the proud parent of a Goffin and now my daughter and myself can learn about them together, I put him at the other end of the house for quarinteen but last night he was calling to my other flock I think he is going to be just fine will get pictures soon...:emot-danc

Ditto Tina,
If had those kinda auctions near me (prob do but i prob mentally avoid going to them or aknowledging(sp) them) cuz i would prob be divorced by now, since i would prob bankrupt us by buying(saving) all those critters, and bringing them home:heart:

I think i qualify now, but how many critters do you need to live with you ,to be labeled "that crazy dude w/ all those animals" ?

Oh well, i'd be crazy then, but i would have some fine company:agree:

Karen, I am so glad to hear the G2 got you as his new Mom. I really don't understand how people can be so uncaring to put that poor bird through that. My G2 has an abusive past, and he is so scared of so many things. When I read about the auction, I could just imagine your new G2 with his feather shaking like Syds does when he is scared - broke my heart. But it sounds like his life will take a turn for the better.:D
You will not have dull moments now that you have a Goffins. They are bundles of energy and very smart. Watch out - they love to chew on anything they can get their little beaks on...wallpaper, tables, chairs... They are also little love bugs. Sydney loves to cuddle, my favorite part of the day with him.

Congratulations Karen !!! :goodjob:

I'm so glad your cockatoo has found a good family to be part of.

Anyone that would send that awesome bird to auction didn't deserve to have it. Thank goodness for people like you.:tighthug:

Good job. Goffins are such good birds. You will love him and him you. I think you got a good deal too. $200 ain't bad. But the main thing is he won't end up on someone's table for dinner.

HEAH HEAH !!! If those people thought he was a chicken, who knows what would have happened to him. People in Florida are crazy...

Wait... I was born and raised in Florida... Well, like I said...

He looks good, Karen. Being from an auction I wasn't sure what we would be seeing. He looks to be in good feather, active, and healthy (size and weight wise)

I'm so glad you and this bird hooked up. God only knows where he may have ended up had you not gotten the call from your friend.

I expected to see/hear of a bird with most of its feathers gone and possibly missing toes/toenails and one with various problems like mites

HI Karen,

He looks lovely. I don't understand why any animals are auctioned - well, I do, for money!! but I don't understand why people who call themselves animal lovers get involved.

OK so Buzz is doing good still nervous but Im giving him his space, I to dont understand how someone can auction off there pet but its done everyday, Yes money wise I did get a good deal he also came with a pretty decent cage, But to all He is missing 3 toes and he has plucked the inside of his legs and some under his wings, But with all Im sure he has gone through Im just thankfull thats all and Im going to try anything possible to reverse this behavoir but even if not I think hes perfect. I will keep everyone updated on his progress right now where trying differant things for him to eat I dont feed a seed diet and he doesnt seem to like the healthy stuff but were making progress...

Karen,
You might try Nutriberries as a beginning to get him off of the seed diet. Sydney came to me on a seed diet and really took to the Nutriberries. He now eats some pellets. He is very picky though when it comes to fresh foods. He likes the things he should not have like pizza, potato chips, hamburger, coffee (when my parents are here visiting, I have to really watch him. He will try to drink their coffee!!) I try to introduce new foods but he just plays with most of them. He does like mashed foods like oatmeal, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and just loves corn on the cob. Keep an eye on what he is eating - you want to make sure he is getting in enough even if it is seed now while you are working on transitioning to something else. Good luck!!
