This little guy was sitting on our back step outside the patio door... just sitting there, very cold with his beak open, eyes clear and open, so I brought him in and Troy got the incubator set up and we warmed him up. I gave him a few drops of honey water, which he willing took once he realized what it was. Then I left him alone for an hour while I began my quest to identify him... he was not in our backyard bird book! Not in the Indiana songbird book! Very odd.

So... I checked on him and he was bouncy and hopping around, and very alert. I tried to feed him.. no interest in anything I offered, including baby bird formula... so I brought him into the small bathroom and took these photos of him... and as he became more alert and then started to fly around a little... he looked more adult and less like a baby...

So I thought, poor thing probably slammed into the glass patio door and knocked himself senseless, lay there, and became quite cold while regaining concsiousness!

Anyhow... I finally found him on the 'net... he's a male Magnolia Warbler.. an insect eater... and not at all native to Indiana, but en route to his home much further north!

Cute little squirt.

I mostly get house finches, chickadee floods, barn swallows and the very rare cardinal in my yard.

Thank you!

Just wait 'til you see the pics Troy and I took just before we released him! We made a little "diorama" in the bathroom and took a bunch of natural pics.. and then sent him on his way. He sat on my hand outdoors, looked around, we said, "go on!" he looked some more, and they off he went straight to the Maple tree! Calm as ever! Sat there, then on he went some more! He's a bug-eater... a flying insect eater... and plenty come out in the late afternoon...

I'll put the new pics up within the hour I hope...

Birds just have a sixth sense about who can help them. They just hone right in on it when they need to.

Your little warbler looked adorable and well rested. You did a great job with him.

Thank you Vicki and Shar... (I'm not really amazing... I'm just driven) ... :emot-danc I love these little guys and their expressions and freedom! And I've always thought animals have the sixth sense... and if we listen.. so do we all... if we listen differently than we usually do.

Here are a couple low-res favorites... I have about 50 hi-res images...

Shirley, That bird must have known the right house to "hit",to get such great care by you folks,,I sorta hate to open the drapes up all the way around here, due to the large bay windows we have, they seem to draw a lot of bird collisions .We have put things in the windows either hanging or sitting on the panes, to not give the impression of a open area they would want to fly thru,,,works most times,,,but get the thud against the windows at times.:(
No fatalities, but mostly stunned a bit.
Reminds me of a story i read of a bird club/org that wanted a window cleaner company to stop running the TV ad of animated birds sitting on a wire, and flying into a window ,because this brand of window cleaner worked so well, .The story went on to tell of a shockingly large number of bird deaths in Chicago, due to the amount of glass in the buildings, and Chicago is a major flight path for a lot of migratory birds.
Sorry to sidetrack, i know that lil bird knows how lucky it was to have you there to assist it during it's time of need,,probably heard talk from the other birds of how well the birds in your house have it,,LOL
