Oh, Barb! Isn't that just the most wonderful feeling in the world!?!??
Thank you for the pics!! Is it his new home with you, or anything else in particular? (I'll go back and re-read tomorrow your posts... )
Skyler is no longer picking or wearing his collar at night now since his last shower, btw!
You and Sinbad deserve a huge celebration! And what a lovely expression he has on his face!!

A heartfelt thank you Shirley, as you know what it's like
Sinbad gets misted 3x a day along w/his herbal spray. I can say that seems to be the best apsumption as to why he does better w/that. He also hangs out w/Akeela during the day,he goes and plays in his goodie box for toys, chatters w/his sister, and have our kissy time. I think just allowing him to be a bird and the extra    he gets from me, has helped him open up. I can pet him on his back, neck, and side of his wings; where before he kinda avoided being touched there.
He is very happy here and I couldn't ask for a sweeter bird :)
Isn't that last pic so adorable :p Can u tell I  my boy?? hehehe

I'd love to meet him someday. Tell me again the herbal spray you use... or that you mix yourself... or is it the aloe vera and you just add a couple drops to the water bottle?

Shirley, if you're in the area, you're more than welcome to meet him :p
The herbal spray is from an herbalist Michelle knows, she mixes the spray and I tell her if there needs to be modification to it or whatever. I have to find her info if you were interested.
The water/aloe spray is the 3x a day I give, just a tiny bit in spring water.
He still is a nervous guy away from the cage, and delivers a pretty good fear bite if you let him, but once you show him it's ok, he usually will chill and let you pet him. Very sweet nature about him though
Little steps at a time, but going wonderfully
OMG what an improvement  ..Can you re tell the story of how he came to be that way and how you got him I don`t know it ..Looks like he is very happy and enjoying being extra loved ..what a wonderful thing you have done and what a lucky boy...:goodjob:
Beautiful , I feel like crying with happiness for him... :wavey:

Thanks, Barb, but never mind on the special mixing and all. I'll just use plain water and the once a month bath since that's working. I can add a few drops aloe vera from the GNC if I want, but not necessary.
I'm SO glad you posted your pics! Keep 'em coming!!

Majj, you can read some on my website below in my sig for my adopted boys ;)
Sinbad came home w/us Feb 24th, 2005. He was from a rescue in Co that I made a special trip for , because I knew he was a special guy, that needed something extra most may not be able to provide. He was surrendered to the rescue due to his plucking issues. It had started, and the previous owner had taken him to an avain vet that also practiced acupuncture  I still don't understand that kind of treatment for a bird, but suposedly this vet was very well known for herbal/homeopathic remedies. It was when they started the acupuncture is when he got worse w/plucking, instead of better. Maybe they gave up and didn't finish treatment, but he was terified afterwards. He gets in such a nervous state, he reaches his stress meter bar rather quickly, then plucks.
There is a short story on my site about when we were there and the vet trip we went to to get his health cert for travel, you can get an idea as to how extremely scared he can get and what he would do to himself.
So in short, the rescue would not have adopted him out so quickly, other than the fact they knew my devotion to Greys and also someone special like Sinbad, they were so willing to let him come home to me.
He is such the sweetest bird, and such a timid little guy, my heart just wants to love him  unconditionally.
I know he looks good now, and may come a day where I see he's lost most again, I don't know, but I do know I will do everything possible to keep him very happy and loved.

Really a precious bird. I think I  him too! Who wouldn't?
I have to brag on Sinbad. I was fortunate enough to hold and love him. He is truly an "Amazing Grey" he has the sweetest nature and is so lovable and fascinating to be with. Believe me, if Barb did not have him I would of loved to have him. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with you.
I admire this awesome species and took care of two of them for almost 6 weeks as a foster mom several years ago and have been around many of them at the bird farm I used to live close to. I have never seen such a sweet and congenial and passionate companion grey that adores to be loved as much as Sinbad.   Barb, I am so glad you have adopted him.

Hmmm...Sammie bit the crap out of my finger last night. She must be having PMS or something. Drew blood. She gets in these moods and I don't know why. Am I doing something wrong?:help:
I am sorry you got nailed. :tighthug: It could be a variety of reasons. Isn't Sammy somewhere close to 3 now? If so, you may get more as she matures. They often try to test their place in the flock as they begin to mature. It is a a natural part of their growing up. It also could be she was not feeling well. How can they not be a bit moody at times like we are.
Try to stop and retrace your movements prior and at the time, that will sometimes give you a clue. Was she in or out of her cage? was she playing or eating? could she of been aggravated, or could it of be happening at a certain time of day?. These are all things to consider. It may not be a bad idea to keep a log when she bites or tries to bite, sometimes you can find a solution easier by doing this.

Thanks. Will try that. Today, she's happy as a Lark (a little play on words there) and whistling, singing and kissing me. Go figure:shrug:

I agree w/Jean, she's probably testing you. They do that from time to time if you haven't worked on laddering consistantly. Sometimes we get a little lax when they are good, and tend to forget how important that exersize is. They take advantage of it real quick, lol expecially at that age.
I do the "gentle" technique that Michelle Karras uses, it it works wonderfully. I get to the point now where I'll let Akeela bite me to show her it don't bother me, and to be "gentle", when she complies, tell her "good gentle" when shes nice w/her beak. Now of course I don't force myself on her to do this, just anytime I am working w/her. She knows what it means, don't let her fool ya :funny:
Try working w/that and see if it helps in time
Barb, those pics show a big improvement. He's looking good. You are doing something right! :beerchug:

I was going to say the same thing as Jean... what happened just immediately prior to the bite? Greys have a reason usually... with Holly, it's usually I was holding her but talking to someone else too long or on the phone too long.

Yep, I was on the phone. She also didn't want to go to bed either. :thanx:
Here is a different thought. They are like a toddler having a beak and not knowing it's power.

I think the battered women that I work with could learn something from AG's. It's called: setting boundaries:D If they could bite like Sammie, they'd never be abused again. But then, who wants to be married to someone you have to bite?

I think you got your answer. Now... you need to let her know that is NOT acceptable behavior. Holly knows... and when she has a lapse of memory and gives a tiny nip she just about bends over backward trying to apologize b/c just the look on my face reminds her of her mistake! A tiny nip is NOT ok with a grey.
:)
Adorable:heart: a great success:highfive:

If she snaps at me I ask her if she wants to go to jail and she cocks her head to the side, staring and contemplating. She gets three strikes (literally) and then, she has to go back to her cage.
I bought her a new and improved cage and am slowly, very slowly, moving it closer to her old cage every day. Crazy Greys. Gotta take everything so slow so they don't get freaked out!:roflmao2: :shrug2:
Yes, most birds are leary of new surroundings of one type or another. One day she will like that new cage and go in it on her own. Especially, if there is a toy or two or some nuts in there that look inviting.
It sounds like you are doing great with her. They all get testy when they want their way. It's the mischievous nature in them.

Woo hoo! I have found it. Sinbad's feather colors look very nice. What an amazing job you have done! He is soooooo adorable and seems to be playful! Thank you very much for sharing. I love their pictures, esp. the last one that says, "His front today". His 2-mo-ago picture almost makes me cry. God bless you, Barb.

Lana, thank you for the comments  He has come along way since at the rescue, and I'm sure there will be plenty of setbacks, but it's all about moving forward and understanding his needs and getting over his habbit.
He is a blessing to have around, same as my others :D
:thanx:
