We're in the van going on vacation with Jack in his crate and Bailey in his cage, and snug and happy. After driving for about an hour listening to talk radio and not saying much to each other, I started talking to Vicki and after about 30 seconds Bailey let's out a medium volumned squak. I'm done talking, by then anyway, Vicki answers and we go back to listening to the radio. A few minutes later, same thing. Now every time I talk for more than 30 seconds Bailey puts in his two cents. Doesn't seem to care when Vicki talks. Just me. Just one squak and that's it.
Wierd bird.

Could be he's just making a contact call with you. He loves you, evidently! :D

So are you on a wireless? Wish I could do that on the way to Ginny's!!! :emot-danc

Yep. Vicki's driving and I'm on the laptop. I love modern technology.
Often when a bird is trying to rest or sleeping in a nearby location where they can hear their mate talk they will do this. Elvie will do the same thing if we are in close quarters when he's tired and trying to sleep if he hears "me" talk.

Interesting Jean, that's almost what Vicki said. She said he's telling me to hush so he can hear the radio. ;)

Yay!
We made it to the keys in one piece. Bailey actually had a blast on the trip. He and Jack were practically nose to nose the whole trip (even though Bailey could hide if he had wanted too) and I think they came out of it better friends. Bailey has never been the slightest bit scared of Jack and I think Jack has overcome his desire to eat Bailey. LOL

Glad to hear you made it safe and sound! Have a wonderful weekend!
Sonja our Schnauzer was like Jack... we thought she'd never leave the birds alone. She was 4-1/2 when we got our first bird. Now she acts like they are just another person, or thin air. If a small one gets loose or flutters to the floor, she actually turns her head and walks the other way as though she's "in trouble"! 'Course we never trust her alone with them...

Tell Jeff and Jerel Howdy for me!! :wavey:
I'm glad you made a safe trip there. Have fun! :beerchug: How far did you have to travel?
I have never gone diving, our youngest son has and loves it. For now he's to busy working on his career and his masters degree in business to take up any extra fun outings.
I can't wait to see some gorgeous underwater pics. :emot-danc

Jean, it's about a six hour drive for us.
That is not bad at all. Have fun!

Shadow likes to add his two cents to conversations. But he'll actually ask questions and make comments. It's the only time he'll talk in the same room with people who aren't me or hubby. He loves it when several people are talking to each other. It's one of the reasons my friends started to notice my birds--Shadow will laugh at their jokes, make appropriate comments and ask us to repeat ourselves if he misses something, lol.
Dionysus does the small noises during conversations if we're annoying her (talking during a show she's watching, talking about a subject she doesn't like, talking too loud, etc. LOL).

It really was the darndest thing. :rotflmao: You had to be there. I would talk to Greg and Bailey would stay quiet. If neither of us talked, Bailey would stay quiet. But, if Greg talked Bailey would squawk. We started laughing over it after the first few times. :D
Bailey loves to travel. He enjoys hanging onto the side of his cage, facing forward and watching us as we drive. He liked the motion of the car moving. When we'd come to a light or a stop sign and stop, he'd squawk for us to start moving again. I told him to sit still and stop being a back seat driver. :funny:
It was Jack's first time traveling with another animal and he handled it really well. I do believe he's getting more used to having Bailey around, but I still wouldn't trust the two of them together.
It was our first time traveling with two animals and it really wasn't so bad. We had one well aimed poopy mess to clean up from Bailey and that was it. I'd do it again. :agree:

Sounds like a lot of fun! I've never travelled far with my animals, but I imagine it must be very nice having them with you! And not having to worry about them missing you while you're gone must be a relief!

Vicki, I am glad to hear your first trip was eventful and enjoyable. Unless you share these adventures with a bird you have no idea how much company and fun they can be. I am glad you have a new joy in your life.
We have traveled with Elvie since he was a baby and he's 11 now. He has gone as far east as MD and as far west as CA and OR several times by car and flown on board with me several times across country. You would not believe how much fun he is and how well he travels, he's a literal pro at it. My backseat is set up with a nice large travel cage full of all the amenities and toys along with his travel carrier/ play station and take apart stand and birdie travel bags.
One very necessary item I would like to point out if you tend to travel in the hot summer heat like the western deserts or any remote highways. I always carry a spray bottle and plenty of drinking water and a washcloth. Once when we were on the way to AZ in the summer our air conditioner blew a belt in the middle of nowhere, that washcloth dipped in water and laid on Elvie and spray water bottle was all that saved him from hyper ventilating in such hot weather.
Jean How Scarey.....Good advice too..
