Thanks Shirley, Scotty and Tina -- I thought she had grown a lot too but seeing her everyday it's hard to tell. Guess she has.

Scotty -- She's what is called a Red-eared Slider. She is very social, maybe I've said that before.:D They are one of the more social turtles. Shirley knows all about turtles.:)

See how she is climbing straight up in the 1st pic. She does that against the wall and she looks so cute. Like she's standing on her tip toes, back legs stretched clear out, front legs out, head out as farrrrr as it will go looking all around. I'll have to get a pic. She is a curious thing, when something different is on the floor or something has moved she goes straight to it to check it out. Oh, and I was surprised how STRONG she is. You better have a good grip on her if she decides she wants out of you hand.

Thank you Brandy - Yes and yes. Haha Yes, Sharon got a hair cut... I'll have to kill ya if you tell this... but she's thinking about letting the gray grow in. Guess short is better for that. Must be a woman thing.:funny:

The gliders are doing great, we still have them. They are really attached to Sharon and spoiled rotten, I mean loved to death. I'll have to get some pics.

I thought she'd cut her hair! I think Steve would have a heart attack if I cut my hair short... it's a few inches shorter over the years...
She looks very nice!

And yes, your turtle is so sweet! I've kissed many a turtle, and that's a very kissable face! Great photo, too! Red-ears and River Cooters are the friendliest of the bunch, as far as water turtles go... and most are somewhat social with people.

She has such beautiful markings and colors. No wonder Sharon adores her, I would too. Goodness, she has grown a lot since you posted her first pics.

Sharon looks cute in her new hairstyle!

Shirley, maybe that is what is wrong with Al since my hair isn't as long as he would like it to b. LOL He likes long hair too.

Jean, Thanks - we think she is beautiful too. I adore her too ya' know!:) She doesn't seem to have a preference as long as it's interaction, getting her out, feeding her, etc.

Scotty, Shirley could probably ID the turtle, this is the first turtle we've had. One ringy-dingy, two ringy-dingy.... Haha... you and that phone.:funny:

Well Brandy my friend... you are a true CAG person! I mean, is your mom letting a 'grey' grow in her head, and when your time comes, you too?:shrug2:

This will be interesting, pictures please.:funny: :funny: :funny:

Scotty... I seriously doubt the turtles are going after swans' feet. (wives tale)
Snapping turtles might take a tiny baby duck/swan, but not necessarily.

Send me a photo. Some are not suited for captivity... they require very large swimming areas... some are suited for lakes and ponds, others must have rivers to thrive.

I was leaving our corporate headquarters and as I was turning on to the road, I saw a turtle trying to cross over the road.

I pulled over and went back to help him. I picked him up and his head came out of his shell and reached around to bite me. It scared me and I dropped him. Then I figured I would just slide him off the road with my shoe.

He bit on to my shoe and wouldn't let go.

The security guards were watching me and just laughing their **&$^ off. Finally one came over and told me that was an "Alligator Snapping Turtle" and they aren't something you mess with.

Tell me... I have always liked turtles but this one...

I wonder why men don't color their hair ??? I would like mine to be red I think. Match my personality.

Brandy

HAHAHAHA Jim,,,

Gary, men colour their hair all the time, i think you would look smokin' hot with red hair!!!

I think you should do it

Shirley

I knew that was a snapper before I finished reading... they are notorious for road crossings, and they have VERY long necks and powerful jaws... But your intentions were very good...

Yep, red hair... hmmmm.... I guess that would work! And yeah, they color their hair, get highlights, the whole bit! (not Steve, not in a million years)

HAHA Craig either Shirley,,,

that might have something to do with him having NO hair to colour though,,haha

OMG, what a cutie!! You would think a turtle is just a turtle, but wow, Frankie sure has a personality on her! She is absolutley beautiful! Are those the turtles that can live a long life??

Shirley
04-02-2007, 12:19 PM
Actually, all turtles live a VERY long life if given the chance. Some just live a LOT longer than others. Land tortoises and snapping turtles live "extra long" lives! :D

Thanks Nancy. I was the same as you, a turtle is just a turtle, until we got Frankie. She does have a personality! It was amazing to me when she had been here a few days and came out of her shell.:funny: You know what I mean, started literally wanting us to get her out and be around us.

Hello, it's been a long time.

Shirley, I saw Jean laughing about your rely. She knows I like her hair long. I decided to log in to say hello to everyone and ask a question.

I wonder who has a remedy to make hair grow longer fast? I need all the help I can get. :rotflmao:

That is a good looking turtle. What do the boys think of it?

Hi there Al, nice to hear from you. At first they were a little stand-offish and kept a close eye on her, in or out of the tank. She was the same way when they went up to her tank. Now they look, she looks back and that's it. She's part of the deal anymore and they look for her if she not in her tank. That's pretty cute cause they know where to look for her most of the time. Nino would and does go right up to her but we don't let that happen when she's out. Ya just never know. I don't see any meanness but even playing, that break could hurt her foot or neck. Teo... he's silly. One day/minute he's the rough tuff, I'm a bully that has no fear, next day/minute he's a big baby. :funny:

Haha... Peta. You grey people.... I'm already a little goofy and confused and I can't for the life of me get it straight.:scratchch Are we talking the color gray or grey as in CAG.

I try to tell Sharon she looks regal and I'm debonair. That's a personal joke between us.:) We say that's a nice way to tell older people they look nice.:funny: She's so regal -- he's debonair.

Jim, you're becoming quite the zoo keeper, aren't you? How much bigger will that turtle get?

Sharon looks nice with her hair cut short. I let my gray come in and stopped coloring my hair. Had it that way for a few years. Then, just recently, (in January) while we went to the movies, the attendant gave me the "senior" discount. Twice. I started coloring my hair again the next day.

We used to have turtles when we were kids. My dad and uncle would bring turtles back from when they went fishing. They brought back some snappers once. My sister was teasing it by putting the palm of her hand up against the turtle's face. The turtle bit her. Took a chunk right out of the palm of her hand. We all told her she was going to get bit, but did she listen to us? Nooooooooooo....

Vicki, I think we've always been zoo keepers. We had a little chimp that grew into a monkey, became half baboon/gorilla and left home. We called him Jimmy. Guess we had to fill the void.:D It's a joke for those that may not know me that well, Jimmy is our son.:funny:

Shoot, I take full advantage of the senior stuff. I get away with murder! The young people just look and shake their head, I know they're thinking "that old cot". Heck you can order or buy something, change your mind and nothing is said. At least not to your face.

Wow, not good putting a hand in front of a snapper. Bet she learned that lesson FAST. I've read, I don't know much about turtles, sliders can get dinner plate size - 12" to 12 1/2" on average. Here's a link to a pic of an adult female slider. On the left, second picture.
