Just wondering what do you feed your tiels... We were feeding Abba Seed (http://www.abbaseed.com/) but after our splayed leg problem with one of our babies, the vet said it was a calcium problem and the seed wasnt sufficent although we give vegies daily.... This seed was suppose to be one of the best in our area $53.00 for 25 pounds. We are in the process of switching to a pellet diet the vet said use ( http://www.roudybush.com/ ) so we are trying it, the only problem with this food is it is only avialable at the vets office which closes before I get off work.. We want to give only the best for our birds so I am just curious what others are feeding?

I feed Roudybush and buy it direct from the company. I use crumbles and Nibles. I do not feed and seed except whats in avicakes and nutriberries as a treat.
Hope this helps.

back when i used to breed tiels my birds got a varied diet. they had access to seeds, pellets, fresh fruit and veggies. and they were dusted(2-3 times a week) with 'nutrition plus' from phoenix unlimited (the food stuffs were dusted not the tiels):rotflmao: and of course i kept plenty of cuttlebone in the cage for them to nosh on. over about a ten year period i didn't have any health problems. all fat healthy babies. hope this helps a little.

If I were feeding pellets, I'd feed Roudybush to the larger parrots. That's what we used to feed them.
All our smaller birds (tiels on down) get a mix of about 10% Zupreem pellets, the rest is equally Higgins fruit n veggie mix, Higgins parakeet seed, and Goldenfeast Australian Blend... along with peas, corn, and carrots... and then whatever we eat that is OK for them to eat, such as sweet potatoes.
I recommend Roudybush, then Zupreem. Nothing against Harrison's, it's the best probably... but it isn't liked by our birds and it has a shorter shelf life...
Abba is supposed to be excellent... I fed Abba soakseed to my canaries when I had them and they were having babies.

I feed mine Roudybush, the crumbles
Ive heard alot of negatives about Zupreem,,its a good food, but I think Roudybush is better
I LOVE Harrisons, and my big guys love it, but I just cant afford it anymore, the price has gone up to $54.99 for a 5 lb bag, which lasts a mth around here, plus shipping on top of that,,it got to much
so were all back to Roudybush, tiels get crumbles, bigger guys get Medium
and they also get Hagen Cockatiel seeds as a treat, plus a few veggies but my tiels generally wont touch them

Switching tiels from seed to all pellets is hard, and to be honest pellets can do just as much damage to their health in the long run if it is the only food fed, same goes for an all seed diet either one if thats all they eat will not be good for them in the long run. Best diet all around is a variety seeds and pellets along with wide variety of fresh veggies, some fruit some cooked foods as well like cooked brown and wild rice as well as freshly sprouted legumes, grains and seeds.
My cockatiels eat Zupreem Natural Pellets, Sunseed Small hookbill seed mix, fresh veggies, cooked grains, sprouts, some fruit and anything else that is healhty for them that they will eat..they love homemade birdie bread.

I always fed my tiels Abba ,but they throw out the unhusked seeds and Maggie May keeps choking on them. Beside I think they have much to much sunflower seeds in the bag. So I feed my Tiels zupreem colored, and a mixture of parakeet seed along with egg food sprinkled in for good measure, and avicakes and apples.they love celery. I give just the tops, broccoli florets and Nutriberries also I by husked sunflower seeds so they can have some with out killing by Maggie:nuts:   By the way Tiki loves unsalted saltines:)
