Today Troy and I harnessed up Skyler and Holly and walked to the Noble Tea and Coffee Shop downtown on the square.... but we BOTH forgot our cameras!

It's about 2-1/2 miles one way there, and we had a wonderful time. We went inside to order the coffee, and a lady came up to Skyler and started petting him (without thinking to ask first, oh well, he doesn't bite) and he responded with "Whatcha doin'?" and she was so surprised, and said, "Well, I'm petting you!" I'm very aware of Holly in public and would have prevented such interaction with her. Can't have a finger on the floor!!

That's the longest bird walk we've taken. We sat at the outdoor tables with cafe au lait and little tiny water cups for the birds and poppy seed scones to share. Skyler and Holly had a good time, and Skyler actually said, "Good Night" as we crossed the last street to get there! Then he ground his beak and nearly took a nap on the chair!

On the way home we stopped by my dentist's office b/c the receptionist there has asked so many times about our birds... so she met them, and two patients there mentioned that their moms have African Greys. Now they are back in their cages and fast asleep.

awww I can't wait to do that w/the Turkey bird, but I dunno how Akeela or Sinbad would do in a harness, they might be less apt to trying it

Leah, You don't know where you can go w/your birds, until you try, lol. I don't mind someone telling me politely to leave if they must, but something tells me he'd be a show stopper instead, hehehee. I'm that spunky type, so I'd take the risk, lol :p

They have outdoor and indoor tables. We went inside to order, no problem, and sat outside to eat and drink.

It's very difficult to get a collar on Skyler. Once on, he's perfectly fine with it the entire time. It's also a bit hard to get it off; I guess he figures we're putting a 2nd one on!!

Holly is a bit of a challenge, but she resists rather than bites, which is a VERY good thing! She knows her bite can do extreme damage, and I sure wouldn't want her to bite me! I'll take any number of Skyler's bites to her one bite any day! :funny:

It sounds like fun and very interesting Shirley. I was wondering how far a Grey could walk? ;)

Can't believe you forgot a camera!  LOL

Reminds me of the time i took Gumby to the bank office my sister worked at, they had a Hawaii/tropic type day-promotion,,tropical shirts, surfboards, palm trees the whole bit. I took Gumby(BFA) there for the day(he was "normal" at that time)i took him in my Jeep, riding on my shoulder the whole way, took him in where they were, and left him for the day, they had the newspapers out for pics n all, got a pic somewhere of him on the bank pres's shoulder while he was on a surfboard,,,made the papers,,,,
Prob the last time i had any of my fids out for a roadtrip,,,

Not so sure i'd find the newspaper clipping around here , by actually looking for just that Shirley, that kind of thing would best be found . "by mistake" while looking for something else,LOL:doh:

Wow!

Sounds like too much fun for parrots! Sadly, mine aren't stranger-friendly. I have a friend who takes her conure (and lovebirds once upon a time) to Renaissance recreation events.
