This is Max. He is about 6 years old. We have had him for 4 years. We are his 3rd home. His first home was in a fraternity. Who only know what happened to him there. He talks some, thank goodness he does not seemed to have picked up on any language from there. He does talk some, but he really likes to mimic things like the phone, frogs outside, and Simon. This is Max eating popcorn, which he loves and after his bath.

bless you for taking him in. he's a beautiful senagal. hope he doesn't have any behavioral problems, that's much worse than any language he may have picked up. that's just my opinion. my daughter has a senagal gal and she loves to mimic the phone, and does a darn good job of it too.

There are no ugly Senegal's.... just some are prettier than others. Your's is a very pretty bird. We have a Senegal named Shirrah that we just rehomed. She is about two, we think.

She is going through the terrible two's right now where she likes to bite the hand that feeds her... after she gets the food of course.

Thank you all!:thanx: Max is a beautiful little bird. His feathers on his back are iridescent green. Jim, unfortunately Max does have behavioral problems as well. When we got him he took to my husband and for quite awhile was his best friend. One day out of the blue, Max became terrified of him, for no reason. I have read this is relatively common with this bird family. My husband was really sad, as he was enjoying being adopted by Max. Eventhough we were told Max does not like women, I get along with him pretty well if I don't try to touch him. He has a terrible bite. He grinds his beak and won't let go. If I give him treats, he lets me change his food and water dishes with no problems. He & I enjoy "talking". I have taught him to yawn and blink or wink at me (or maybe he has taught me!!:rotflmao: ) He will let my son pick him up if he is not on his cage. I have just decided, I will work with him on his terms. I may never be able to hold him on my hand, but I can still enjoy him. I plan on trying clicker training with him after I make better progress with Sydney. We will see what happens!

Actually, I never though to see what kinds of Senegals there are, but I looked up Yellow Bellied Senegals, and I think that is what he is!!

I just discovered your post, Janet! Max is beautiful! If he's only two... he might well come around and want a closer relationship with one of you - out of the blue, and suddenly, he may decide he wants his head and neck scritched. That's how it was with Michelle, our Red-belly. Steve worked with her daily for several months... making a little progress... then she suddenly took to me, who had not worked with her at all, and she dumped Steve completely. I've heard this about Poicephalus, and that they all go through the "terrible twos".

Play-Doh is about 5 or 6 or maybe 7. We are his 3rd home as well, and he had bonded to women in the past. We had him a few days when he bonded to Steve and he's never changed his mind. I think he was about 3 or 4 when we got him. I know all about those bites where they just hang on and let the blood flow... I avoid them as much as possible and never try to pick him up.

However.... Dr. Cook has been working with him through the cage bars, with positive reinforcement (peanut bits) and he now lets her scritch his head and neck, and comes right over asking her for attention when she comes over!

Post more pics of Max! :emot-danc
