Do female birds lay eggs even if they haven't been fertilized, you know, like a chicken? :scratchch

Yes, sometimes they do. Sunlight, or artificial light, can stimulate this, or their human bond combined with light and diet can also stimulate this, along with their age and hormones. Fewers hours of light can help stop them from laying eggs. (shortened days)

It's not that bad, and sometimes they don't lay eggs. Males can have worse issues... with their human... sometimes. ;)

Oh tell me about it I've got 4 female cockatiels here, but luckily I have never had a bird lay an egg. Oops! Watch me wake up tomorrow and there will be one.

:roflmao2: The last time I heard that term was when my male hairdresser called his male partner in from the receptionist desk....in Louisiana about 14 yrs ago!! Hey, they're still together and quite successful -- in real estate and hairdressing now! :emot-danc

Basil lays eggs. we just find them in the bottom of the cage and remove them, she usually acts really 'clucky' in the days before

well when it comes to egg laying if you have a single female bird that lays, best thing to do is leave the eggs with her until she tires of them..sometimes removing them right away can trigger them to replace the one that was lost. Best to just let them keep the egg or eggs sometimes they lay one and sometimes more than one usually a full clutch but they soon tire of them when they realize they will not hatch some birds it's a matter of days other birds it's a matter or weeks before they abandon the infertile eggs.also during this time it is very important make sure your bird gets enough calcium by scraping a cuttlebone over soft foods give them scrambled or hard boiled eggs wth the shell crushed up and mixed in and even dark leafy greens are have calcium in them to..

Do any of you breed AG's?

No, but I know two women quite well who used to... they are up in years, so have quit breeding. Why? If you need questions answered, I have a lot of respect for both these breeders. Their birds are also their family. Holly is from one of them.

I was just wondering about the process. Don't need another bird tho! Sammie is a handful.
