I've had my cockatiel for almost 1 and a half years now and I was told she was probably a female. I was wondering if I should expect her to start laying eggs soon or if she will only do this when the conditions feel like breeding season (which may be never since she is indoors). She does not have a companion cockatiel and is the only bird in the house. I would be excited to breed her with a local who has a male cockatiel but don't know if this could work without her paired up and living with the male for awhile. TIA.

She might never lay eggs... or might wait til she's several years old, or might lay eggs next year... in my experience, with friends' female 'tiels, I don't see a predictable pattern.

My moms tiel - Misty lays eggs at all different times. One year she might lay an egg and then a few years go by that she doesnt. She is caged with a male - Sunny. I can't remember how old she was when she first started??? But like Shirley said, I also have'nt seen a pattern. Its normally a suprise for us :)

Years ago we had a female tiel, she laid eggs sometimes but as the others said there was no pattern.
She did used to get aggresive if you went near the cage at this time so when she was out of the cage we used to lift them. She never bothered about them after this.

Our female tiel, who is paired with a male, lays eggs but again no predictable pattern.
