Well, this little guy was given to me by an elderly friend who raises parrotlets. She sold nearly all her pairs of parrotlets and gave me this little Greenrump baby, and will give me his parents on Friday. They never hatch more than one egg... once one hatches, they destroy the others, and they won't feed their baby after destroying the eggs ... so their babies have always been pulled at 3-4 days old and hand-fed. Steve and I have helped her out several times over the past four years... and now she doesn't have time or energy to handfeed so many babies, so is getting out of the breeding business. They all are very much loved - she has a Quaker, Cockatiel, and some non-breeding parrotlets that she'll keep. The Quaker and 'tiel are many years old.

If this baby is a girl, she'll be named Millie, after her breeder, and if it's a boy, mayble Moxie.

This was taken today right after eating, and weight before eating was 20g.

Thank you! He's in a brooder now set at 85 degrees. And eating about every 4 hrs, but will sleep through the night.

After I fed him, Sammy ate the rest of his food by the spoonful! I didn't think he'd take baby formula again! :funny:

It is an absolute miracle that these little guys make it. They look soooo small and fragile and they grow up to be so pretty and healthy.

I never cease to marvel at Mother Nature.

Yeah, she's just a little wisp of a thing... in the wild, safe in a hole in a tree... just think how helpless if something were to happen to her parents... or if someone decided to chop the tree down... :(

 I think we look at our birds and tend to forget that someone somewhere could be chopping down THAT tree. I really do wish that before we cut down that tree we could all sit and think of just how many animal forms we could be harming.

No kidding... I think of cutting a tree down as demolishing an apartment building without giving notice first to the inhabitants.

Thank you, Peta! She just eats, walks around and squeaks, and sleeps so far. She doesn't perch or eat on her own, and is still in the brooder, set at 81 now. I imagine she'll be in a little cage by the end of this week.

Shirley, she is a pretty baby, does she think you are her mom since you have hand fed her? Sorry if it is a dumb question but I always wondered about handfeeding.

Maggie, she'll only appear to "love me more" while she's eating. Once she's weaned, she'll be tame, but may not choose me, and certainly won't like me "more" than others. It's like the wild birds... they fly away from the nest and no longer need or relate to their "mothers". Sammy, our CAG, was handfed and cared for by me. He became fully weaned one day and chose Steve my husband the next day. :shrug2:
