well today Gomez had a vet appointment he has not eaten in several days I also wanted to have the vet sex gomez as he was old enough..well to my surprise Gomez is a Girl and a Girl gravid with eggs infertile which showed up in the X-Ray, of course since there is no male..so we have to up her calcium so she does not get egg bound..now with infertile eggs they can either dissipate back into the body or she may lay them..and from what I read when I got home gravid female Iguana will lose appetite but increase activity looking for a place to nest. The vet gave me Critical Care Reptiel supplement to syringe feed her till she starts eating again..oh joy what fun. The vet drew blood but won't know the results of that for a few days..hopefully it will be ok. So now we need to decide if we keep the name or a name change is due...lol

Oh my. How about Morticia! ;)

But you're right...she won't eat 'til she lays her eggs...

Troy was so worried about Chelsea, his tarantula, b/c she didn't eat for 5 weeks... a bit too long, then Voi-laa! She molted and ate! He called me up SO excited! (that was a few weeks ago) Like snakes, tarantulas won't eat prior to a molt.

The things we worry about... :p

well it would not be so bad except like birds female Iguanas and other lizards can become egg bound ..so i am going to be worrying weather or not she is getting enough calcium..we sprinkle generously over her foods. And yes snakes won't eat when they are getting ready to shed, but have a vivacious appetite once they do shed....

So I guess all egglayers have problems with calcium. I learned something new:) Good look with your gal, I hope she'll lay her eggs without any problems.
