Lacy is a female normal Pacific Parrotlet who was hatched and handfed here. She is still tame, although we rarely play with her. She does come out each night and run up Steve's arm while he feeds the parrotlets! Papa-let is completely wild. Lacy is 2 yrs old and Papa (now named Paco) is about 4 or 5 yrs old. Right now, she is sitting on her first clutch of eggs! SIX! They are due to begin hatching around the 7th or so of April. http://9.forumer.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
update... all her eggs were infertile... :(
Below is Lacy as a baby with her two brothers - she's the youngest!

Sharing secrets! Paco is probably asking her if I'm done yet!

Bird stalker as in chase after you? No, not parrotlets. They just have to give you the obligatory bite when you get them out of their cages! Lacy is tame and doesn't bite hard at all, though. Papa doesn't bite very hard anymore, but bites several times instead of once. He's wild.
If you want one that's tame, just have one, and get it as a weanling, tame and handfed. Or, as a tame older bird like Lacy is.
They are adorable, and can learn all sorts of things. Here's one of our grown babies with a former student of mine:

I don't recommend Parrotlets for children, btw... their bite is too severe for small children.

Awwwwwww, That is soooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!
LOL I had to laugh about bird stalker, I meant a bird that is aggressive towards other birds. I rehomed a pair of quakers I had and lovebirds because they were soooooooooo aggressive towards my other birds. It became their mission to get to them and succeeded on a couple occasions. When I had to start keeping them caged all the time I knew it wasn't right for them and I didn't want them to spend their lives like that. I decided it was best for them and vowed I'd never get another one as long as I have the birds I have now, although I do have a soft spot for quakers.
My birds are good now, everyone minds their own business and does their own thing. I love the little parrotlets but I worry I'd get one that wanted to mess with the big guys.:) Do you have aproblem with your other birds? Thanks

Well, the parrotlets don't realize the big birds can hurt them, so we never let them out near them. If the parrotlets are on the bed with the Bourke's, either species with go after the other! Quite funny! They never actually get each other, b/c the Bourke's can fly or fun away, and the Parrotlets can run away, and neither actually bites the other, they just hiss and bare their beaks like they'd like to! Very funny! But all beak and no bite.
But... we don't do that with Holly around! No way!

I don't let my birds mingle either and I sure wouldn't with a bird that size- I love their size!! but I've read they've got a nasty nasty little bite, or should I say big LOL I've heard people say they'd rather get bit by their cockatoo! My Quakers and lovebirds though, they were out of control, they literally stalked my other birds and would do whatever they could to get to them. That's why I was wondering if it's the same personality. My birds are out all day except at night so it works good and I don't want to have to cage any of them. Although a parrotlet could have a mansion they are so little.:funny: I just think they are the neatest little birds.:)

Unfortunately, these guys won't stay put when they are out, even if their wings are clipped. They have a neat little tree stand, but they stay on it less than a couple minutes and it's off to explore the whole house! No telling what they'd up or where I'd find them! They aren't determined to bite other birds; only if they happend to be really nearby... like on the bed with them. And yes, if they want, they can bite to draw blood, which isn't often, but often enough that they don't make a good "kids' pet" imo.

Thanks, Jean! That little boy is going to be a Freshman this next school year! He still emails me every now and then! He was my littlest 5th grader, and what a sweetheart he was! (and still is!)
BTW, Lacy likes her new male! I meant to post that! They moved in together on Monday, and are doing just fine! Um, no honemoon yet.... he's still checking out her housekeeping skills, and she's still checking out... well, I don't know what she's checking out. She just struts around and chatters and fluffs up a lot. :funny:
How are Lacy and her new male doing now?

Let's see... the new male I put her with last Spring? They got along fine, but didn't do anything, and he belonged to the elderly lady who "had so many babies she was So-o-o-o Tired!" from feeding... Remember? Well, I didn't know what to do with Paco, her original male, who had become quite tame and is real sweet (his pic is in the card I sent you... didn't I send you a parrotlet card?) and so he went back to her and Lacy is back with her original male, which delighted both of them no end. Lacy surprises me the way she accepts new males so easily... that is not the norm for parrotlets! But she acted like she totally remembered him, which I'm sure she did, but she sure had no problem accepting the other male... Are we confused yet?
Anyhow... they are very happy and basically doing "nothing", which is fine so long as they are happy! And she is still very tame. She's a real flirt with Steve.
