When somebody says "medium" or "large" sized bird or parrot, what the heck does that mean? I think my conure is pretty small, but there's really tiny birds too so I have no idea...

Can somebody give me which of the common birds generally fit into which "size" category?

Good question. I think of medium size as relative. To non-bird people, they think Skyler is large, but to us he's medium, but to an Umbrella Cockatoo he's small and an Umbrella is medium and a Moluccan is large...

But then a parrotlet is tiny.

Well, parrotlets are tiny.

Conures are small, but aren't Suns larger than most conures?

Our Grey, Bare-eyed, Rose-breasted all wear size medium clothes (haha) harnesses, flight suits.

I think of B&G and Scarlett and Hyacinth Macaws and Moluccans as large, and sometimes Umbrellas as large b/c they also require the larger cages.

Amazons, RB2s, BE2s, CAGs, as medium, the Sulphur cresteds as medium...

Conures as small, there's a bunch I'm leaving out... and then there's all the really small ones like the Poicephalus (Jardines, Meyers, Red-bellies, Senegals) and then the really tiny ones like the parrotlets... (I'm rambling and typing as I think)

Greg, I personally like being familiar with this chart . For the reason many of the medium to larger species vary in weight which you will notice. It makes calculating sizes an easy format to go by.

That's a great chart, Jean!

Now Greg, go weigh yourself in grams... don't get hysterical when you see the high number, it's to be expected, and you'll get the idea...

Skyler is 425g

Merlin the Moluccan is 800+g or almost 900g

Kilroy the Bourke's (yes, that's a parrot... remember, she has a hookbill) is 44g

The parrotlets are 34-40g

get the picture?

I'm not telling you how many g I am... :roflmao2:
