This was sent to me today and it brought a tear to my eye. I don't know who the author is, it brought a tear to my eye. It could also be for all wild caught Parrots.

This place in Africa
Cameroon was our home
‘Till a man came and hosed us
Wet through to the bone

He thru over us a net
And pulled it so tight
We all started growling
And screaming with fright

A terrible journey
It was just pure hell
To England they sent us
For people to sell

Some of us lived
But most of us died
Our wings they were cut
Our feet they were tied

Shoved into small cages
We were roughly thrown
Further and further
Away from our home

From one place to another
Then another thrice more
Then thankfully here
Where I now feel secure

I am starting to trust them
And learning their speak
I have friends and good food
All I ever would seek

But I think of the others, who were netted from the tree
Most of them dead now, how cruel can it be
To be dragged from our homeland, and never be freed
Lives wasted by torture, all for mans greed

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/39/39_5_3.gifOh what a sad story! Sadly so true! We used to have a pet store here that only sold birds, they were closed down back a few years ago. They used to sell wild birds, it was sooo sad. They had a room in the back, i went back there once, there must have been about 50 Cockatoos all in different cages lined up and stacked against the wall. They would growl and screech in sheer terror! I never understood why people would want to take an animal that is used to his environment, take him from everything he knows, his family and everything, cage it and force him to be tamed! So sad!

Yeah, isn't it sad, I have to admit that it brought a tear to my eye just reading it. What makes it worse is the fact that it does go on. And why for mans greed. Will we never be satisfied until there are no more wild birds living in their homelands. :cryingpup

I'll have to put this on Sammie's blog. We're always trying to educate her visitors and I'm sure this will help a lot!

I read Chesepeake Bay (sp) years ago and this poem made me think of it when they captured the Africans and forced them on boats and many died...all in the name of slavery.

Oh, such a sad story. I have tears in my eyes as I read this of those that were killed and those that survived have been so abused and put into prison like situations. :cryingpup

It despicable what some people will do for money.

It despicable what some people will do for money.

Isn't it though, this can be applied to ALL the wild caught birds. I just wish that humans would think a little bit. Those who are trapping and those who are buying. More so those who are buying, if we stopped buying wild caught birds, then there would be no need for the trappers.

Oh blimey what a horrible poem, really makes you think how lucky our birds are to not know that kind of torture. When I first got Pablo the shop owner said "please don't put a chain around his claw to keep him in check", I said I would never do that, I have far to much respect and love for my bird, but obviously some of mankind don't.
