These are very informative links. Thank you.

I've been convinced by our avian vets that wellness check ups are an important part of a birds well being.

When our first bird flew into us the second thing I did after trying to find her old home was contact an avian vet so she could be seen and I knew she was alright. Little did we know then she would suffer from esophagus cancer in the months ahead.

When we adopted Elvie as a baby the first thing we did was take him for a wellness check up with an avian vet even though he looked healthy and beautiful we were assured he was as healthy as he looked. His first visit consisted of a thorough exam to include stool, crop exam and blood work. That put us at ease knowing he was certified healthy by his avian vet. We take him once a year for a wellness exam just because our avian vets have recommended it. I've made it a practice to put back 40.00 a month to help cover his medical exams. Then it doesn't hit me nearly so hard all at once.

This is the quote I liked in Liz Wilson's bio-this woman is a REAL behaviorist, with credentials to back it up:

"two years ago, she founded the Association of Parrot Behavior Professionals [APBP] and has served on its Board Of Directors since its inception. She has recently started to work with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (http://www.iaabc.org/) and is serving on their Commission for Accreditation and the Avian Commission, as well as their Journal Review Board."

What an incredible link on "Do you have a real avian vet." I soooooo appreciate who every put that link out there. That is GOOD stuff.

I know Dr. Clubb is a real avian vet but she is 200 miles round trip away. I would like someone in this area.

That link covered everything I have tried and things that have happened to me. I used the vet that the pet store recommended... until they got mad at him and recommended someone else. Then I used "the best in this area..." until he took my bird "in the back..." and told me to wait out front. Then I used a guy from Austalia who "knows birds" until he told me that my weight chart that I showed him, was useless... He fondled her breast bone. And the classic... "Her beak is uneven on this one side. We need to trim it." "Ahhhh... I would rather you didn't. That is a classic Cockatoo beak." "Who's the doctor here. My wife and I had an Umbrella for 12 years. I know Umbrella Cockatoo's." As I picked up my girl, "Well you don't know this one. And to answer your first question... It dam sure ain't you, sport."

I was shocked that the AAV central headquarters is 75 miles from me. AND there is the phone number. Needless to say, Monday morning, I will be calling.

I go for a physical exam every year, whether I need it or not, which includes a big battery of blood test. Why shouldn't my Princess have the same ???

I just read the above post over. I was really mean to those guys. No wonder I can't find an avian vet. They have me on their black list. When I call they say "It's that jerk from Melbourne. Tell him we don't see birds."

I need to work on my people skills. I'll start next Monday....
